Ed Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, have two daughters: Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran and Jupiter. Lyra’s full name was shared in a September 2020 birth announcement; their younger daughter’s name was identified in a March 2023 profile, months after Sheeran announced her arrival.
What are Ed Sheeran’s daughters’ names?
Their daughters are Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran and Jupiter. Sheeran and Seaborn have made only limited information about their children public, so the clearest account comes from their announcements and later reporting.

When were Lyra and Jupiter born, and when were their names announced?
| Daughter | What was announced | What the timing establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran | On 1 September 2020, Sheeran’s announcement, reproduced by ITV, gave her full name and said Cherry had given birth “last week.” | Her birth was in the week before the announcement, in late August 2020; the statement does not give an exact birth date. |
| Jupiter | In May 2022, Sheeran announced the arrival of a second daughter without naming her, as reported by CBS News. A Rolling Stone profile published in March 2023 identified her as Jupiter. | The birth announcement and the later name disclosure were separate. The May post did not state a birth date. |
In his 2020 post, Sheeran wrote: “Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.” In May 2022, he wrote: “Want to let you all know we’ve had another beautiful baby girl. We are both so in love with her, and over the moon to be a family of 4 x.”
Why did Ed Sheeran name Lyra Antarctica?
Sheeran connected “Antarctica” to a place he and Seaborn had wanted to visit and that became special to them. The Independent reported his explanation in 2021: “It’s the one continent I haven’t gone to… So we went there and it’s just an amazing place, it’s really special to us, and obviously like we got home and Cherry was pregnant. Yeah it was just something we wanted to have in her name.” That is the explanation he gave for Lyra’s name; no comparable explanation for Jupiter’s name is established in these reports.

What has the family shared about privacy?
Sheeran’s 2020 announcement ended with a direct request: “We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time.” Public accounts establish the daughters’ names and the announcement chronology, but do not justify claims about their personalities, routines, schooling, or where they live. Keeping those details private is consistent with the boundary their parents stated.
