Zach Cregger’s four directed feature films rank, in this editorial order: Weapons, Barbarian, The Civil War on Drugs, and Miss March. The list covers his feature directing work—not every film or television credit—and traces a shift from co-directed comedy to horror and mystery.
How this ranking works
This is a critical ranking, not an objective consensus. The two later horror films have strong Rotten Tomatoes snapshots, while no comparable aggregate score was established for The Civil War on Drugs. Its position, and the ordering between the two comedy features, are qualitative judgments.

The release years—2009, 2011, 2022, and 2025—show the broad career progression: two early comedies made with Trevor Moore, followed years later by Cregger-written horror and mystery features.
1. Weapons (2025)
Cregger’s horror-mystery feature is the most assured entry in this ranking, balancing a mystery structure with a dark, unsettling narrative. It opened widely in the United States on August 8, 2025. In a Rotten Tomatoes snapshot accessed in 2026, it had a 93% Tomatometer from 400 reviews and an 85% Popcornmeter from more than 10,000 verified ratings; those platform scores can change and are not universal measures of quality. Apple lists it as a 2025 Warner Bros. release with a runtime of 2 hours 8 minutes.

#1 Best Overall
- Weapons
Kim Newman of Sight & Sound captured the film’s gradual, disorienting reveal: “Cregger scatters breadcrumbs generously along his darkly wooded, nettled narrative path, but even as we gradually latch on to what Weapons is doing, there’s nothing to prepare us for how wickedly it does it.” Rotten Tomatoes dates Newman’s review November 4, 2025.
2. Barbarian (2022)
Barbarian is the hinge between Cregger’s earlier comedy features and his later horror work. He wrote and directed the 2022 film, which uses uncertainty and escalating dread to pull viewers into its story. Rotten Tomatoes’ Cregger-page snapshot accessed in 2026 lists a 92% Tomatometer and a 70% Popcornmeter. These are separate critic and audience measures, not a single quality score.
3. The Civil War on Drugs (2011)
This feature belongs in the list because Cregger directed it and co-wrote it with Trevor Moore. It represents the early comedy phase of his directing career, before the much later horror and mystery films. The available figures do not establish a comparable Rotten Tomatoes score or consistent aggregate reception measure, so this placement is a qualitative call rather than a data-based one.

Cregger and Trevor Moore co-directed and co-wrote Miss March, the earliest of the four features. It sits last here, though a low platform score cannot predict every viewer’s response. Rotten Tomatoes’ Cregger-page snapshot accessed in 2026 lists a 5% Tomatometer and a 30% Popcornmeter.
