Bloomberg reported that it sold in 2015 for more than €275 million, then about $301 million, to an unnamed Middle Eastern buyer. In 2017, Le Figaro identified Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as its owner. Those reports support the estate’s association with him, but do not verify the title’s $320 million figure or establish who owns it today.
Who bought Château Louis XIV, and what was the reported price?
Bloomberg’s December 2015 account described a private sale for more than €275 million, approximately $301 million at the time. It attributed the price to two people familiar with the transaction and said the buyer was a Middle Eastern purchaser whose name was not disclosed then. Bloomberg also reported that Christie’s International Real Estate helped broker the deal; Cogemad and Christie’s declined to comment at the time.

Le Figaro later identified Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, as the owner and reported that the estate sold in September 2015. The chronology matters: the buyer was unnamed in contemporaneous transaction coverage, while the identification came in later reporting. The available accounts do not establish that a public sale deed was reviewed. The $320 million figure in the original title is therefore not the contemporaneously reported sale price.
Where is the estate, and how large is it?
The property is in Louveciennes, in the Yvelines department of the Paris region, between Versailles and Marly-le-Roi. AFP’s 2015 reporting described a park of 23 hectares and about 5,000 square metres of living area.

Is Château Louis XIV actually a historic château?
No. Despite its name and its seventeenth-century French château styling, reports describe it as a newly built residence, not an original building from Louis XIV’s reign. Bloomberg reported that developer Cogemad constructed it over about three years. Its historic character is an architectural reference rather than evidence of centuries-old fabric.
What is inside the château, and what are the grounds like?
Bloomberg, relaying descriptions on Cogemad’s website, listed an aquarium, a cinema, a wine cellar and an outdoor fountain covered in gold leaf. The developer also described parterres, flowers, marble statues, bridle paths and a hedged labyrinth in the grounds. These are reported features and promotional descriptions, not independently verified observations.

- 1/72nd scale
- War games approved
- Includes twenty soldiers, eight knights and eight horses; Four versions for attachable shields are included
- Finely engraved details on each figure

Cogemad’s garden copy said the park and gardens “evoke the genius of Le Notre.” That is the developer’s characterization, not an independent appraisal of the landscape.

The cited reports establish a 2015 reported transaction and a later journalistic identification of Mohammed bin Salman as owner. They do not establish a present-day valuation, a current title record, or whether ownership has changed since the 2017 report. A current owner or value should not be inferred from those earlier accounts.

Nor do these figures establish that Château Louis XIV is the world’s most expensive residence: that kind of ranking would require a defined comparison set and dated, comparable transaction evidence. The figures here describe this property as reported in 2015, not a current market assessment.
