Anderson Cooper’s net worth is not publicly verified, but a 2019 report placed his estimated wealth above $100 million before he inherited most of Gloria Vanderbilt’s estate. That same report said the estate was closer to $1.5 million—not the widely repeated $200 million figure—so the headline comparison is plausible, but neither number is a confirmed financial disclosure.

What is Anderson Cooper’s net worth?

There is no reliable current figure for Cooper’s net worth in the sources available here. Net-worth estimates published by media outlets are not the same as audited accounts or a personal disclosure, and later estimates continue to disagree.

In 2019, the Los Angeles Times reported that Cooper’s net worth had been estimated at more than $100 million before his mother’s death. A 2024 TheStreet article cited estimates of both $200 million and $50 million. Those conflicting figures do not establish Cooper’s current wealth or provide a dependable breakdown of his assets and earnings.

How much did Anderson Cooper inherit from Gloria Vanderbilt?

The Los Angeles Times reported in 2019 that Cooper received the bulk of Vanderbilt’s estate, while her Manhattan co-op went to her eldest son, Cooper’s half-brother. The report said the estate was closer to $1.5 million, citing a source close to the family and discussing probate reporting. That figure describes the reported estate value; it is not a verified statement of the amount Cooper personally received.

A widely circulated estimate had put Vanderbilt’s wealth at $200 million. The same Los Angeles Times report described that estimate as disputed by the source close to the family. It should not be presented as a confirmed estate value.

Did Anderson Cooper inherit the Vanderbilt fortune?

Cooper inherited most of his mother’s reported estate, but that is not the same as inheriting the much larger historical Vanderbilt fortune. The relevant reported figures are not directly comparable: Cooper’s pre-inheritance net worth was an estimate, Vanderbilt’s $200 million wealth figure was disputed, and the approximately $1.5 million figure was reported as the value of her estate. They do not support an exact wealth-to-inheritance ratio.

Did Anderson Cooper have a trust fund?

Cooper has said that he did not grow up with a trust fund or expect an inheritance. In a September 2021 interview excerpt published by Paramount Press Express, he said, “The idea was that people have kind of thought I must have a huge amount of money and have some sort of a trust fund, which wasn’t the case.”

In an October 2021 Washington Post Live interview, he put it more bluntly: “There’s no inheritance. There’s no trust. There’s no trust fund or anything like that, and my parents made me aware of that very early on, and I’m really glad they did.” These remarks describe what he was told and expected while growing up. They can coexist with the later reported distribution from his mother’s estate after her death in 2019.

What the figures do—and do not—show

  • Cooper’s net worth has not been established by a reliable current disclosure in the cited sources.
  • The more-than-$100-million figure is a 2019 estimate of his wealth before the inheritance, not a confirmed total today.
  • The approximately $1.5 million figure was reported as Vanderbilt’s estate value; the amount Cooper personally received is not specified here.
  • The widely repeated $200 million figure for Vanderbilt was challenged in 2019 reporting and should not be treated as a verified estate value.
