Two new Mario-related games were released for Nintendo Switch in 2022: Mario Strikers: Battle League and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also received the Booster Course Pass that year, but it is add-on content for an existing game, not a new standalone release.

Mario Strikers: Battle League
Nintendo describes Strike as a sport focused on scoring goals by any means, with tackling, items and special shots. Matches use five players per side. Up to eight players can play on one Nintendo Switch system, making this the clearest fit of the two for group play on a single console.
Multiplayer may require additional games, systems or accessories, depending on how you play. Nintendo states that online play requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Its launch announcement gives the June 10, 2022 release date and describes the game’s core sport; its 2022 announcement covers player capacity and multiplayer conditions.

#1 Best Overall
- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
This is an adventure starring Mario, Luigi, Peach, Rabbid characters and their companions as they travel across planets. Nintendo describes its battles as a mix of turn-based tactics and real-time action, rather than a traditional turn-based-only system.
Nintendo of Europe lists October 20, 2022 as the Switch release date. Nintendo’s Japanese Mario history page displays December 2, so use the date shown by Nintendo for your region rather than treating one date as universal. The Nintendo of Europe product page lists physical Game Card and download versions, as well as a Gold Edition. The Gold Edition includes the base game, Season Pass and Galactic Prestige Pack; edition availability and contents can differ by region, so check the local listing.
Was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe new in 2022?
No. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was an existing Switch game. In 2022, Nintendo announced its Booster Course Pass, downloadable add-on content that expanded it with 48 remastered courses. The courses were available through paid DLC or a paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Count the Booster Course Pass as a significant 2022 Mario release, but not as a third new standalone game.
