What is the appeal status?
After the verdict, the State said it would challenge the acquittals and the sentence outcome. On June 22, 2026, Onmanorama reported that the Kerala High Court admitted the State’s appeal challenging acquittals, including Dileep’s, and seeking enhanced sentences. A LiveLaw report dated August 5, 2026, said the appeal was being considered by a Division Bench.
Those reports establish that an appeal was admitted and later reported under consideration; they do not establish its status after August 5. They also do not make the trial acquittal a final appellate outcome.

Separate proceedings about the prison sentences
Sentence-suspension applications were a separate matter from the State’s appeal. LiveLaw reported on July 17, 2026, that the High Court had heard pleas by Saleem and Pradeep and reserved orders. The same report said the court had refused to suspend Pulsar Suni’s sentence the previous week. These dated reports do not establish the later status of those applications or the sentences of the other convicted men.
