Bush’s grandfather depends on a rumor that Crowley fathered Barbara Bush. The online posts located offer speculation about social connections, not documentary evidence of paternity. Institutional biographies instead identify Marvin and Pauline Pierce as Barbara’s parents and identify Barbara as George W. Bush’s mother. The allegation is therefore unsupported by the evidence reviewed—not conclusively disproved by a genetic test.
What the rumor claims
The theory says that occultist Aleister Crowley was the biological father of Barbara Pierce Bush. Since Barbara was George W. Bush’s mother, that premise would make Crowley George W. Bush’s maternal grandfather. The grandfather claim is not independent evidence; it follows only if the allegation about Barbara’s parentage is true.
Where the claim appeared and what it argues
An early online version
A post on the blog flux 64 dated September 14, 2006, speculated that Crowley may have “contributed to the lineage” of George W. Bush and raised the possibility that he was Barbara Bush’s biological father. Its proposed case rests on asserted social connections and conjecture, not a primary record establishing that Crowley met Pauline Pierce or fathered Barbara. Read the flux 64 post.
A later retelling
A 2013 post on h0rusfalke repeated a proposed chain involving Pauline Pierce, Nellie O’Hara, Frank Harris, and Crowley. It presents a theory rather than independent proof. The existence of these posts documents circulation of the rumor; it does not confirm the allegations. Read the h0rusfalke post.

Those biographies are biographical accounts, not genetic tests. The sources reviewed do not conclusively exclude every hypothetical possibility, but they provide no basis for presenting Crowley’s alleged paternity as fact. The careful conclusion is that the claim is unsupported by the evidence reviewed.
