In June 2026, he said about 95% of the matches he wants are still ahead of him—a notable shift from his earlier expectation that he might spend roughly two years in AEW before retiring.
What Adam Copeland has said about retiring
Copeland’s outlook has changed, but he has not set a deadline. In a June 26, 2026 interview with CBS Sports, he described his remaining wish list this way: “About 95% of the matches I want are still out there.” That is his personal estimate of the matches he hopes to have, not a statistic about his career, health or remaining ability.
The comment marked a change from his earlier plan. Copeland had expected to spend roughly two years with AEW before retiring, and had envisioned a farewell in Toronto. By June, he was talking instead about the matches he still wanted to pursue.
Why his retirement horizon shifted
A June 26 report by WrestleTalk, covering Copeland’s interview with SHAK Wrestling, linked the change in outlook to a broken leg, acting commitments and uncompleted match goals. The report noted that he wanted tag matches involving FTR and the Young Bucks, as well as other singles matches. Those are goals, not a confirmed schedule.

- Each figure is detailed with TrueFX technology for a life-like face and added collectability!
- Fans can recreate signature moves with 14 points of articulation for dynamic posing!
- Reenact favorite WWE Main Event matches or create new rivalries and moves for play and display!
- WWE fans can find their favorite Superstar figure or can collect them all (each sold separately, subject to availability).
The combination helps explain why a rough earlier expectation may no longer fit: an injury affected his wrestling plans, while acting work—including roles in The Beekeeper and Percy Jackson—also featured in coverage of the timing. The reporting does not establish a new date based on either factor.
Does the age estimate of 53 or 54 set a deadline?
No. A May 12, 2026 report by eWrestling, quoting Copeland’s interview with The Sportsocracy, said he might retire at around 53 or just touching 54. He also described the situation as having no official clock, but one that was winding down. This was an estimate from that interview, not a commitment to retire at a particular age or on a particular date.

Does he plan to retire in AEW?
An August 18, 2026 listing for The Ariel Helwani Show says Copeland discussed when he plans to retire and confirmed that he wants to retire in AEW. The listing is not a full interview transcript, so it supports the broad preference but does not establish a specific retirement date or detailed plan.
AEW identifies Copeland as a wrestler on its roster and records his TNT Championship win in December 2023. That provides career context, but it does not indicate when he will stop wrestling.

What is—and is not—known
- Known: Copeland’s earlier expectation of a relatively short AEW run has given way to an outlook shaped by matches he still wants.
- Not established: A firm retirement date, a fixed age deadline, or a confirmed final-match plan.
- Important distinction: The “95%” remark refers to desired matches he believes remain available, not a measured career statistic.
