Yes. The 2026 film is Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, a horror movie that opened in theaters on April 17, 2026. That date has passed; it is not an upcoming release as of October 8, 2026. It is also separate from Universal’s Mummy project associated with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
What is Lee Cronin’s The Mummy about?
The story follows a journalist and his family after their young daughter, Katie, disappears in the desert. Eight years later, she is discovered alive inside a tomb—but her return raises the question of whether she is still the same child. Variety’s April 18, 2026 interview describes the family as American expatriates living in Egypt before relocating to New Mexico, and says Katie comes back badly deformed.

Is it connected to the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies?
No. Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is a distinct horror production associated with New Line and Warner Bros., with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster also named in Variety’s interview. It is not the next Rick and Evelyn O’Connell adventure, and Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are not part of its announced cast.
A separate Universal project is associated with Fraser and Weisz and is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence. The two projects differ in their creative teams and stated approach: Cronin’s is presented as horror, while the Universal project is described as action-adventure.

Rotten Tomatoes’ film guide, published March 25, 2026, lists the theatrical release date as April 17, 2026, and credits Cronin as writer-director. The date establishes the U.S. theatrical opening reported by that guide; it does not establish current streaming or home-video availability in every country. Check a current local listing for where to watch it.
Cronin described his aim as approaching a subject outside his usual frame of reference: “I wanted to come at something that wasn’t necessary overly familiar to me, something that wasn’t on my Mount Rushmore.”
