The Art Deco dining room featured a 15-by-17-foot mural based on a 1937 Fortune advertisement showing a family waiting for a flight. The profile also mentioned a pool, a slide, and a golf course. These are details recorded in that historical account, not confirmation of what remains at the property today.
Where is the house, and does it have its own runway?
The home is in Jumbolair, a fly-in community in Ocala, Florida—not a residence with a runway reserved exclusively for it. Travolta told Architectural Digest that he chose the area for a larger, stronger runway and had a taxiway built to the house to support the weight of his 707. The profile described an eight-year process to get the project underway. AOPA had reported in 2002 that he was building in Jumbolair’s first phase. AOPA’s 2002 report characterized Jumbolair as an airpark development with two-to-four-acre lots.

Jumbolair’s current official About Us page identifies Airport 17FL in Ocala/Marion County and lists runway 18/36 as 7,550 feet long and 200 feet wide, paved with asphalt, at approximately 100 feet MSL. It also lists a GPS approach and PAPI lighting, and says estates have runway access by taxiway. Jumbolair describes its runway as the largest licensed private runway in North America; that is the community’s own comparative claim.
So the distinctive feature is the home’s taxiway connection and aircraft proximity, while the runway serves the broader fly-in community. Travolta’s quoted 7,500-foot runway requirement and Jumbolair’s current listed 7,550-foot runway dimension are figures from different sources and contexts, not competing measurements of the same thing.

Why do published accounts give different house sizes?
The available published figures conflict, and neither should be silently treated as definitive. Architectural Digest gave 8,900 square feet in its profile, while the Ocala Gazette reported a 6,600-square-foot home on Travolta’s nearly 20-acre Jumbolair property in 2021. The difference may reflect distinct descriptions or measurement bases, but the reports do not resolve it. The Ocala Gazette’s February 26, 2021 report concerned the Jumbolair development sale, not a sale of Travolta’s residence.

The Ocala Gazette’s February 2021 report said Travolta owned a nearly 20-acre property in the development. It also reported that Jumbolair as a whole sold for $9.5 million; that price was for the development, not Travolta’s home. The current Jumbolair site supplies runway and community information but does not verify whether Travolta still owns or lives at the property. Accordingly, the latest source here confirming his ownership is the 2021 report, not a present-day confirmation.
