Brandon Call appears to have left acting after Step by Step ended in 1998. He recovered after being shot in both arms in 1996, completed the sitcom, and later largely disappeared from public view. The latest public update located is a report that he attended a 2024 ’90s Con reunion and was working in real estate.
Brandon Call’s acting career before Step by Step
Call began acting in 1984 as a child. Before joining the family sitcom, he appeared on the soap opera Santa Barbara from 1985 to 1987 and played Hobie Buchannon during the first season of Baywatch in 1989–1990. The biographical summary of Call’s career lists his active years as 1984–1998.

He played J.T. Lambert through the show’s final season
Call portrayed John Thomas “J.T.” Lambert for all seven seasons of Step by Step. The sitcom began on ABC and moved to CBS for its final season, ending in 1998. The shooting occurred before the show’s final season, and Call went on to finish the series. The available reporting does not establish that the incident caused him to leave acting, so it is not possible to give it as the reason for his retirement.
Where is Brandon Call now?
The most recent public update located is a SlashFilm report about a 2024 ’90s Con reunion with former cast members. The report says Call was reportedly working in real estate; it does not provide a direct interview transcript or a first-person statement confirming his occupation. Call appears to have retired after Step by Step ended in 1998, but no reliable first-person explanation for that decision is available in the cited accounts. He had worked as an actor since childhood, and his post-sitcom life has remained largely private.
