How Tish Cyrus and Dominic Purcell met
Their origin story comes mainly from Cyrus’s own recollections. In an account reported by Us Weekly, she said Purcell messaged her on Instagram in 2016 to compliment her family life. She did not see the message for about a year, she recalled, and by then he had blocked her.
They reconnected through social media in 2022, after Cyrus separated from Billy Ray Cyrus. At their wedding, Tish described the connection to Vogue this way: “I slid into Dom’s DMs and the rest is history.” She also said, “It was love at first sight for both of us!” These are Cyrus’s descriptions of the relationship’s beginnings, rather than independently documented accounts of the private messages.

April 2023: Cyrus announces their engagement
Cyrus announced the engagement on Instagram in April 2023, writing, “A thousand times…. YES.” Vogue later reported that Purcell proposed over Thanksgiving and that Miley Cyrus helped him plan it. The proposal and the public announcement were separate events: the reported proposal came first; Cyrus shared the news months later.
August 2023: They marry in Malibu
Cyrus and Purcell married in August 2023 in a small poolside ceremony at Miley Cyrus’s home in Malibu, with friends and family present. In its wedding feature, Vogue included Cyrus’s comments about the ceremony and her wedding attire.

February 2024: Cyrus describes their early courtship
Appearing on Call Her Daddy, Cyrus recalled a long first lunch date and said they exchanged “I love yous” the next day, according to Us Weekly. She summed up their date routine by saying, “We go to lunch and make out for like three hours.”
What Cyrus has said about communication and therapy
In March 2024, Cyrus discussed differences in how she and Purcell handle disagreements. She said she was learning to hear his opinions without taking them personally, telling The Independent: “I just feel like instead now of me getting so offended, because I respect and love him, that we have conversations.” Her comments describe her perspective; they are not a complete account of the couple’s private relationship.

In July 2024, Cyrus also spoke about joining Purcell for a therapy session early in their relationship. She said he attended therapy regularly and recalled that he was mindful of her recent divorce and the pace of the relationship. As reported by The Independent, Cyrus remembered Purcell saying: “I just want to make sure I’m not pushing Tish too fast into the relationship and, like, she’s just gone through a divorce and I want to really learn to walk her through that in the best way possible.” This is Cyrus’s account of their experience, not evidence about therapy’s effects generally.

The sources cited here establish that Cyrus and Purcell were married in August 2023 and include Cyrus’s comments about their relationship in 2024. They do not confirm the couple’s status as of October 7, 2026, so those earlier reports cannot establish whether they remain together or married now.
