It reflects social-platform activity—not an objective or independently validated measure of scenic beauty.
What the 2024 ranking says
PerthNow reported on 7 November 2024 that MortgageBroker.com.au had analysed Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok to compile the line-up. The four Western Australian entries and their positions were:

The figures and descriptions in the table are those PerthNow reported in 2024. The article did not give a collection date for the platform metrics, so they should not be read as current counts. It also named Richmond in Tasmania, Byron Bay, Port Douglas, Noosa and Daylesford among the other top-ten destinations.
Why Albany ranked first
PerthNow’s report associated Albany’s first-place position with 1.3 million photos across Instagram and Pinterest combined and 67,000 TikTok hashtags. It also pointed to the area’s rugged coastline, maritime history and the dramatic cliffs and views of Torndirrup National Park. The attraction examples help explain Albany’s appeal to visitors and photographers, but the reported platform figures are not a direct assessment of landscape quality.

What the other Western Australian entries offer
Margaret River: wine country, beaches and surfing
Ranked fifth, Margaret River was represented in the report by 874,000 Instagram hashtags and more than 10,000 TikTok videos. PerthNow described a region known for its wine country, beaches and surfing. The figures are reported snapshots, not live platform totals.
Broome: Cable Beach and a seasonal natural display
Broome placed seventh. PerthNow highlighted Cable Beach, which it described as 22 kilometres long, and the Staircase to the Moon, a natural effect usually visible between March and October under suitable conditions. The report’s seasonal description is not a guarantee of visibility on any particular date.
Exmouth: Ningaloo and Cape Range
Exmouth ranked ninth and was described as a gateway to Ningaloo Marine Park and Cape Range National Park. PerthNow’s examples included coral reefs, whale sharks, kangaroos, cliffs and gorges. Its report does not establish current park access or wildlife-viewing conditions, which can matter when planning a visit.

The list is useful as a snapshot of which Australian destinations attracted social-platform activity under the approach described in the 2024 report. It is not a formal scenic-quality survey. PerthNow does not disclose enough about the underlying dataset, collection dates, scoring or the weighting and normalization of Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok measures for readers to reproduce the rankings or judge how comparable the platform counts are.
For choosing a trip, use the rankings as a prompt to explore places rather than as a travel itinerary or quality score. Compare destinations by the landscapes and attractions you want to see, the time you have, travel logistics and seasonality. In particular, verify conditions for seasonal events, park access and wildlife viewing before making plans.
