In Agatha All Along Episode 3, the coven’s first Witches’ Road trial turns a polished house party into a poisoned-wine emergency. Jennifer Kale’s potion-making skill is essential to the antidote, but the witches’ escape comes at a cost: Sharon Davis receives treatment too late and appears dead. The trial does not make the coven harmonious; it shows how survival depends on cooperation even while its members bicker and distrust one another.
What happens in Episode 3?
The third episode is titled “Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials,” according to the Disney+ episode listing. It begins the Road’s trials in earnest, trapping Agatha and the coven in an elegant house that becomes a poisoned escape challenge.
After drinking poisoned wine, the witches find themselves in an altered, hallucinatory version of a domestic social gathering. They must identify ingredients and make an antidote before time runs out. Jennifer’s potion-making expertise provides the practical way forward. The group escapes through an oven-like chute and returns to the Road, but Sharon—who collapsed after drinking the wine—has been treated too late.
Is Mrs. Hart dead?
Yes: showrunner Jac Schaeffer said, “Mrs. Hart is dead,” describing Sharon’s fate in the story. In TheWrap’s September 30, 2024 interview, Schaeffer also cautioned that a death in this corner of the MCU does not necessarily mean the character can never appear again. The episode’s ending is a death, not proof that Sharon could never return in any form.

Why does Jennifer make the antidote?
The trial turns Jennifer’s potion-making ability into a concrete survival skill. The coven needs an antidote to escape the poisoned house, and her expertise supplies the solution. The sequence shifts the focus away from Agatha’s performative control and toward a witch’s practical competence: the group’s survival depends on what Jennifer knows how to do.
What the trial reveals about the coven
A comfortable setting conceals real danger
The house’s polished, hyper-feminine atmosphere is deliberately at odds with Agatha. Schaeffer told TheWrap that the setting draws on a space where sisterhood and rivalry coexist. Its pleasant social surface gives way to bodily danger: the witches have to solve the trial together, whether or not they like or trust each other.

Sniping and respect exist at the same time
The witches are not suddenly a close-knit team. They bicker, distrust one another, and act in their own interests, but the trial makes their interdependence unavoidable. In a Walt Disney Company feature, Schaeffer describes the series as concerned with community and reconnecting with inner power. She says that beneath the coven’s sniping is a strong thread of respect. That creator perspective helps explain the tension on screen without mistaking it for instant unity.
The hallucinations hint at individual histories
The trial is more than an escape-room puzzle. Schaeffer said the writers wanted each witch to have a distinct problem standing between her and her power, and that the first Road test should offer a “good breadcrumb per witch.” The hallucinations make the house a way to hint at personal histories as well as threaten the group.

Why Sharon’s death changes the stakes
Before the trial, the Road’s danger could feel abstract. Sharon’s death makes the consequence immediate: the coven can fail to save someone even when it eventually finds a way out. Schaeffer told TheWrap, “The stakes are real in this show.” The episode makes that claim through the timing of the antidote and Sharon’s fate, rather than through a threat that disappears once the challenge is solved.
