What does the $73 million figure mean?
Forbes estimated Sandler’s pretax earnings for calendar year 2023 at $73 million after fees for representation, such as agent, manager and lawyer fees where applicable. Its separate gross figure was $97 million, before those fees. These are estimates, not figures confirmed by an audited salary disclosure. The year matters: the list ranks earnings attributed to 2023, not actors’ current pay. Forbes’ later list, published in 2026, estimated Sandler’s 2025 earnings at $48 million after fees and ranked him first for that year as well. The two amounts cover different calendar years; they should not be treated as a like-for-like measure of a rise or fall without accounting for the lists’ methodology. Why did Forbes rank him first?
Forbes associated Sandler’s 2023 earnings with three Netflix films—Murder Mystery 2, Leo and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah—as well as his live comedy work. Its report counted 44 stand-up performances in 2023. Forbes did not provide a complete, project-by-project breakdown, so the available figures do not establish how much of the $73 million came from any one film, Netflix deal or show. How did Netflix fit into Sandler’s earnings?
Netflix was an important part of the context, but viewing figures are not payment figures. Forbes reported that Netflix viewers streamed more than 500 million hours of Sandler films during the first half of 2023, citing Netflix. The Forbes account discusses a broader difference between streaming projects and theatrical films: streaming deals may involve upfront payments, while theatrical releases can include profit participation. But it does not publish Sandler’s relevant contract terms or a full earnings split. It is therefore not possible to assign a precise portion of his estimate to Netflix from these figures alone. When Forbes discussed the 2020 renewal of Sandler’s collaboration with Netflix, it quoted Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos saying, “There’s no such thing as too much Sandler.”

Is $73 million Sandler’s current ranking or salary?
No. It is Forbes’ estimate for 2023, and the ranking applies to that earnings period. The later Forbes list places Sandler first again for 2025, with an estimated $48 million after representation fees. Both figures are annual estimates from their respective lists, not a disclosed fixed salary or audited totals.
