The headline “Academy voters reveal 2025 Oscars picks for EW’s Secret Ballot” refers to Entertainment Weekly’s reporting on Academy members’ choices, but the specific picks and voter comments cannot be verified from the available sources. What can be confirmed is the official 2025 Oscar result: Anora won Best Picture at the 97th Academy Awards. The distinction matters: individual voter selections are not the same as the Academy’s final, secret ballot.
What is known about EW’s Secret Ballot story
The headline circulated in a Reddit discussion, but that discussion is not a reliable record of the Entertainment Weekly article. Without the original EW report, no particular voter’s choice, quotation, identity, or ballot count can be responsibly attributed to it. [Reddit discussion]
That means the headline alone cannot establish which films or performances individual Academy members favored. It also cannot show how those picks compared with the final winners. A comparison requires the reported choices themselves, not just the article title.
What the Academy’s official record confirms
The ceremony was the 97th Academy Awards, and the Academy lists Anora as the Best Picture winner. Its official ceremony page is the authoritative source for the final results: 2025 Oscars ceremony and winners.

The 2025 Best Picture field included 10 nominees, according to the Associated Press: Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked. The AP also reported that Emilia Pérez led all films with 13 nominations. Those facts describe the nomination slate, not what any individual voter marked on a ballot. How Oscar ballots differ from individual picks
The Academy says Oscar voting takes place by secret online ballot and is tabulated by PricewaterhouseCoopers. It also says eligible members from all 19 branches determine the Best Picture nominees. These are parts of the Academy’s formal process; they do not verify the contents of a separate media outlet’s account of individual voters’ preferences. [Academy voting process]

An individual member’s reported pick, if an outlet publishes one, should be understood as that person’s choice—not as the Academy’s result or as a representative tally of all voters. The official ceremony record, by contrast, establishes who won.

For the 98th Oscars cycle, the Academy announced a requirement that members watch all nominated films in a category to be eligible to vote in that category in the final round. The Academy announced this change on April 21, 2025; it applies to the subsequent awards cycle and should not be read backward as a rule for the 97th Oscars.
