What is officially established about the companions?
EA’s launch announcement names the seven companions as Bellara, Davrin, Emmrich, Harding, Lucanis, Neve and Taash. EA also says they bring “unique combat abilities and equipment” and have “their own personal storylines and motivations.” EA’s launch announcement presents them as individual characters with their own arcs, rather than just a roster of faction representatives.
BioWare’s official blog describes Rook fighting alongside a cast of companions who together make up the Veilguard, “a group of heroes who have come together to stop the veil from breaking and bringing about the end of the world.” That is the game’s promotional framing for the team. Xbox Wire’s 2024 promotional feature gives several useful character descriptions: Bellara is identified as a Veil Jumper; Emmrich is described as a necromancer; Neve as a private detective; Lucanis gets the label “Mage Killer”; and Taash is called “The Dragon Hunter.” The feature also notes that Harding returns as a full-time companion. EA’s romance guide describes Taash as a dragon-hunting Qunari warrior. That adds context to Taash’s role, but it does not settle the faction question for all seven companions. EA’s romance guide
Where does the fan theory fit?
A Reddit discussion titled “Themes and theories for DAV companions [DAV Spoilers]” reads the companions through distinct factions and themes. Its proposed links and predictions are fan interpretations. They should not be mistaken for official affiliations, confirmed dialogue, or established plot events.

The distinction between a character’s official description and a fan’s interpretation matters. A job or specialty can suggest themes, but it does not by itself confirm faction membership. The available official sources do not document all seven affiliations in a single complete roster.

Faction theories offer a way to look for patterns across a group of characters whose skills and motivations differ. EA’s description of individual storylines and BioWare’s framing of the Veilguard as a team of heroes leave room for those discussions. But a compelling thematic fit is not the same as an official confirmation: the promotional descriptions cited here do not fill every gap in the seven-character faction roster.
