Their accounts are personal, not a complete count of LGBTQ people in wrestling. There is no substantiated list of seven wrestlers who are “hiding” their identities, and someone’s orientation or gender identity should not be guessed from rumors, relationships or a wrestling storyline.
What “coming out” means in these accounts
Here, “out” means that a person has publicly disclosed or discussed an identity. It is not something an audience can reliably infer from a character, appearance, personal association or silence. People may also use different words for themselves over time; a later description does not erase an earlier one.

Sexual orientation and gender identity are distinct. The examples below use the terms reported for each person and describe disclosures, not a definitive roster or census.
Wrestlers who have publicly discussed their identities
Fred Rosser, formerly known in WWE as Darren Young
In August 2013, a TMZ interviewer asked whether a gay wrestler could succeed in WWE. Rosser answered, “Absolutely,” and said, “I’m a WWE Superstar and to be honest with you, right now, I’ll tell you I’m gay and I’m happy. Very happy.” CBS News covered the interview at the time; WWE later described the disclosure and expressed support.

In a later interview, Rosser said, “When I came out publicly to TMZ, I didn’t really think it was a big deal when I said it.” ESPN’s account discusses his experience and the personal impact of disclosing publicly.
Anthony Bowens
Outsports reported that Bowens publicly identified as bisexual in 2017 and announced in 2019 that he identifies as gay. That chronology is not a contradiction: people can update the language they use for themselves. In a TV Insider interview, Bowens recalled the earlier locker-room climate with the words, “It was just different.”
Gisele Shaw
Shaw disclosed that she is transgender at Pride Toronto in 2022, according to TV Insider. She said she wanted to share her story to inspire and educate, while also describing concerns about being judged. This was a disclosure of gender identity, not sexual orientation.

Amber Jo, Sean Campbell and Casey Johns
An Outsports Pride-month report from 2021 describes public statements by these wrestlers: Amber Jo identified as pansexual, Sean Campbell as bisexual, and Casey Johns said he is trans. The report describes Johns as non-binary transmasculine and gives their pronouns. Use the report’s language rather than treating these distinct identities as interchangeable.

Out reported in June 2024 that Fitzpatrick publicly identified as bisexual in posts on X. In the statement reproduced by Out, he explained that he wanted to speak when it felt right for him.
Pat Patterson
Pat Patterson’s account belongs to a different historical and professional context from the more recent disclosures above. The Ringer’s discussion draws on his 2016 autobiography, Accepted: How the First Gay Superstar Changed WWE, including how he navigated private life while preserving wrestling’s kayfabe. His story should not be reduced to a template for how others ought to disclose.

Why there is no responsible list of people “hiding” an identity
The sources cited here document individual public statements; they do not substantiate the claim that seven identifiable wrestlers are concealing their sexual orientations. Naming people on that basis would turn speculation into an assertion about a sensitive part of their lives. A wrestling role, a relationship, appearance or a lack of public comment is not evidence of someone’s orientation or gender identity.
Disclosure is personal. The cited interviews include concerns about judgment and accounts of the personal impact of going public. People may weigh safety, acceptance, career and privacy differently, and they do not owe the public a disclosure.

What these examples can—and cannot—tell us
These are sourced examples, not a complete list of LGBTQ wrestlers or a representative sample. Individual interviews and reports cannot establish how prevalent any identity is across wrestling. They show what particular people have chosen to share, in their own words or in reporting about those statements.
