Michael Schumacher’s 1996 Ferrari F355 GTS had 1,639 km—about 1,018 miles—recorded at its first service on 5 May 1996, five calendar days after its documented delivery. That is the basis for the “1,000 miles in its first week” headline; the service record does not show which journeys made up the distance or how long Schumacher personally drove the car.
What the first-week mileage record actually shows
Reporting based on the car’s service book says it was delivered to Weber Management GmbH, the company of Schumacher’s manager Willi Weber, via Ferrari Deutschland in Wiesbaden on 30 April 1996. Monaco Motors recorded the first service on 5 May at 1,639 km, approximately 1,018 miles. The five-day interval is why the story is often rounded to “1,000 miles in the first week.” Trade Unique Cars and Auto Motor und Sport report the dated mileage record.
The record documents the car’s odometer reading at service; it does not establish the route, number of trips, or who drove each kilometre. Nor does it prove Schumacher personally used the car for all five days.
What is known about Schumacher’s ownership
A letter from Monaco Motors reportedly supports the car’s connection to Schumacher and records dealership servicing through September 1997. That is useful provenance, but it is not a precise account of his personal use or the date his use ended. The car later passed to Pierre Valentin in France in May 2002. Its current custodian acquired it at auction during the 2004 Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, according to Classic & Sports Car.

The 30 April 1996 delivery came two days after Schumacher finished second in the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. The timing adds context to the car’s early history, but does not explain the service mileage.
How the Ferrari was specified—and what is original
The F355 GTS is reported as Blu Le Mans with Pelle Crema leather and a six-speed manual gearbox. Some coverage attributes the configuration to Schumacher, but that choice is not established with certainty; Auto Motor und Sport specifically cautions that the color-selection attribution is uncertain. It is safest to treat the colors as the car’s reported specification rather than a confirmed personal selection.

Ferrari Classiche certification in 2020 reportedly confirmed the original chassis, gearbox, bodywork and color combination. The engine is a correct-type replacement, not the original engine. These details come from the sale reporting, rather than direct inspection of the certification record.

Sale coverage in 2025 reported 47,298 km (29,390 miles) on the odometer, while another report rounded the figure to about 47,500 km. These are reported readings from the sale period, not a verified current odometer total.

Before the sale, the car reportedly received maintenance and restoration work in September 2024: a timing belt, spark plugs, battery and rear brake pads were replaced, the windscreen was replaced, and the dashboard was restored. RM Sotheby’s offered the car in a sealed-bid, no-reserve sale in February 2025. The reviewed coverage does not establish a verified realized price, so no sale figure can be stated. Classic & Sports Car gives the more exact reported odometer reading; Auto Motor und Sport reports the rounded mileage and maintenance details.
