The list available publicly is a secondhand transcription of a Sunday Times feature, and its numbered order is not confirmed as a ranking. The ranking below is therefore an editorial assessment of personal and career significance, vehicle character, and the limits of the available evidence.
What the 28-car list represents
The list points to The 28 cars that changed Jeremy Clarkson’s life, a Sunday Times feature identified in a 2023 discussion. The feature was described there as paywalled; a Reddit contributor reproduced 28 names, but that is a secondary transcription, not a verified copy of the original article. The list’s sequence should not be read as the newspaper’s ranking or as proof that Clarkson owns these cars today. The discussion reproducing the list is a lead rather than primary confirmation.

“Garage” is thus shorthand for cars associated with Clarkson’s life and career. A 2025 Garage Italia overview also describes a selection of cars that were in his garage at various times, but it is not a complete or current inventory. Garage Italia’s overview names cars including the Ford GT (2005), Alfa Romeo GTV6, Range Rover Classic, Bentley Continental GT, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Volvo XC90 D5, Toyota Land Cruiser J40, Lamborghini Miura, Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser and Eagle Lightweight GT.
The reported 28 cars, ranked by significance
This is a narrative ranking, not a technical scorecard: the cars span small economy models, family transport, off-roaders and performance exotics. The evidence available does not establish what each car meant to Clarkson, so the ordering below weighs the significance suggested by the retrospective’s premise and the cars’ distinct roles, without attributing unverified personal stories to him.

What dated ownership evidence can confirm
One specific Clarkson ownership history is documented by RM Sotheby’s. Its 16 June 2025 release says he bought a 1996 Ferrari F355 GTS new in 1996 and announced the car’s consignment to the auction house’s 8 July 2025 Cliveden House sale. The release gives an estimate of £180,000–£220,000, which is an auction estimate rather than a realized price, and says the Ferrari had covered 6,000 miles by 2000—not its current mileage. The announcement documents a planned sale, not the result. RM Sotheby’s release.
Rank #2
The Ferrari is not one of the 28 names in the reported transcription. Its documented history is useful context: an associated car can be sold, and a feature about life-changing cars is not the same thing as a present-day inventory.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a “garage” list can go out of date
In 2026, The Independent reported that three vehicles associated with Clarkson and The Grand Tour were scheduled for auction, including a 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6 used in the “Well Aged Scotch” episode and a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V used in “Lochdown.” The accessible report gave 14 November as the planned sale date; that schedule alone does not establish that either car sold. The Independent’s report.
Rank #3
For a definitive current garage roster, a dated source would need to establish present possession for each vehicle. The feature’s title, a retrospective list, and reports of past ownership do not do that.
