Their comments connect the film’s horror-comedy premise to satire about gender expectations and consent, while also offering a snapshot of what they said at the time about The Family Man and a planned Go Goa Gone 2.
What Raj & DK said inspired Stree
The filmmakers told Scroll.in that a local custom they encountered in Tirupati caught their attention: people wrote “Stree re pura” on house walls, asking the spirit to come another day. They found the apparent obedience of the supernatural visitor comic, and later learned that the legend had variations across India. The interview did not establish the custom or legend as independently verified folklore; it records the creators’ account of the idea’s origins.
Stree was directed by Amar Kaushik and written by Nidimoru and DK. When the interview appeared, the film was scheduled to open in theatres on 31 August 2018.
Why the ghost’s reactions mattered more than the ghost
Nidimoru and DK said they wanted neither a straight horror film nor a spoof. They saw the premise as a way to build comedy and social satire from the townspeople’s response to a supposed haunting. Krishna DK put their focus this way: “The key in the story isn’t the ghost but how everyone is reacting to its supposed presence. Once we found the satire in it, we immediately embraced the possibilities of the idea.”

Nidimoru described the role reversal they intended: “We found the social satire element in it. That in today’s India, it is men who are scared to step out of houses at night. That men have to take a woman along with them in the night to stay protected. And that men would have to wear tight clothes and step out because once stree took you, only your clothes were left behind. Also, this stree is all about consent. She calls you first and only when you turn, she takes you.” These are the filmmakers’ explanations of the film’s satirical choices, not evidence about Indian society as a whole.
In an India Today interview published on 31 August 2018, DK similarly said: “We talk of consent too. Stree won’t take you forcefully. She will seek your permission first. We are conscious of the satirical elements.” Nidimoru described their tonal aim there as: “We wanted to make a true story but it should be ridiculous.” The phrases explain how the creators framed the conceit; they do not establish the legend as a true story.

How they described The Family Man
The 2018 Scroll.in feature described The Family Man as a 10-episode Amazon Prime series, co-written by Nidimoru and DK with novelist Suman Kumar and dialogue writer Sumit Aroraa, and directed and produced by the duo. Manoj Bajpayee played an apparently ordinary family man who was also an intelligence agent. The agency in the series is fictional.
The creators said the comedy came from everyday pressures at home and in bureaucracy. They also said the story drew on current-affairs headlines and conversations they had during research in Kashmir. That is a description of the show’s creative approach, not a claim that its fictional agency or plot events document real operations.

In a separate Scroll.in interview published on 14 September 2019, Raj & DK gave more detail about their process: they had spoken with former RAW and NIA personnel, read about real incidents and cases, and used news reports as starting points before fictionalizing. Nidimoru described the distinction this way: “We fictionalised all these, so that the story is fact-based but not factual, and at the same, could very well be facts.” The account is the creators’ explanation of their research and adaptation, not independent verification of events depicted in the series.
What the 2018 interview said about Go Goa Gone 2
As of the interview’s publication in August 2018, Nidimoru and DK said they were writing a first draft of Go Goa Gone 2 and expected Saif Ali Khan to reprise Boris alongside other principal cast members. Those statements describe the project’s status and casting expectations at that moment only; the interview does not establish its current production or release status.

Other projects mentioned: Farzi and Happy Ending
The filmmakers also discussed returning to Farzi, a long-gestating project. Nidimoru said, “We 100% want to make it, but we don’t know when and with whom.” This is an expression of intent in the 2018 interview, not confirmation of a current plan or production.
Reflecting on the reception of their earlier film Happy Ending, Nidimoru said: “The audience might have approached Happy Ending as a straight rom-com, but it wasn’t one,” The comment illustrates the duo’s interest in working against audience expectations, but the interview does not provide evidence about how audiences generally interpreted the film.
