Conan and Liza Powel O’Brien’s former Carpinteria beach house reportedly sold for $14.5 million in October 2022. The $16.5 million figure was its asking price when it was listed in July—not the reported closing price.
What was the sale price?
Architectural Digest reported that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker bought the property for $14.5 million, two million dollars below its initial $16.5 million asking price. Siteline Santa Barbara reported that the home was listed in July 2022 and closed the week before its October 24, 2022 article.
What was the property?
The sold home was a two-building oceanfront compound on Padaro Lane in Carpinteria. Architectural Digest reported a 2,142-square-foot main house, a detached guesthouse, roughly half an acre of land and 50 feet of beach frontage. Realtor.com’s July 2022 listing coverage described the renovated main house and features including a deck, beach access, guest accommodations and a garage; those details reflect the listing coverage, not an independent inspection.
How does the $23 million purchase fit in?
O’Brien’s reported $23 million purchase was a separate Carpinteria property, not the home later bought by Kardashian and Barker. Architectural Digest described the Sand Point residence as 3,476 square feet, with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, on a lot slightly larger than an acre.

| Former O’Brien home, Padaro Lane | Sold to Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker in October 2022 | $14.5 million closing price; $16.5 million initial asking price | 2,142-square-foot main house with detached guesthouse; roughly half an acre and 50 feet of beach frontage |
| O’Brien’s Sand Point home | Purchased in 2022 | $23 million | 3,476 square feet, four bedrooms, four bathrooms; lot slightly over an acre |
The Padaro Lane home had reportedly been bought by the O’Briens in 2015 for $7.9 million. The $14.5 million reported sale price is $6.6 million above that earlier purchase price, but that difference does not establish profit: it does not account for renovation expenses, ownership costs or transaction costs.
