The claim has not been established as fact. The latest reported development is Hunter’s January 6, 2026 request for dates to take Goth’s deposition; a January 12 report did not say a judge had ruled on the request.
What does James Hunter allege happened on the MaXXXine set?
Hunter sued Goth, director Ti West and production company A24 over an incident he says took place while the film was being shot in April 2023. According to the complaint as described by TheWrap, Hunter alleges Goth kicked him in the head after he warned production that she had come close to his head during an earlier take. He also alleges he was taunted after the incident, suffered a concussion and was removed from the remaining production days. These are allegations in a civil lawsuit, not court findings. TheWrap reported the lawsuit on January 12, 2024.
What is the lawsuit about?
TheWrap described Hunter’s claim against Goth as battery and his claims against West and A24 as wrongful termination. The case concerns Hunter’s account of the on-set incident and what he says happened afterward. The reporting does not establish that the allegations have been proven.
Is Mia Goth’s lawsuit really for $740,000?
PerthNow reported on January 14, 2024 that Hunter sought at least $740,000 in damages, plus punitive damages. That is a reported demand, not an award or settlement, and it should not be treated as a verified total of medical losses. Reports have given differing figures: LegalClarity’s June 22, 2026 review says some outlets described a demand of at least $250,000 plus punitive damages, while others reported at least $500,000. The accessible reporting does not independently establish the exact damages request in the operative complaint.

What have Goth and the other defendants said?
Us Weekly reported that the defendants denied wrongdoing. It also reported Goth’s position that Hunter consented to and approved of the acts he now complains about. Us Weekly’s January 12, 2026 report recounts those positions alongside the dispute over discovery.

Asked about the case by TIME, Goth said, “I can’t talk about that at the moment because it’s an ongoing lawsuit,” and added, “But I’m really grateful for A24’s support.” TIME published the interview.
