AJ Lee’s WWE return began with a surprise appearance on SmackDown in September 2025 and culminated in a championship victory over Becky Lynch on February 28, 2026. WWE’s documented story follows Lee from a mixed-tag match alongside CM Punk to a renewed rivalry with Lynch and the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. “Dream” is an editorial description of that arc—not a phrase or motivation attributed to Lee.
When did AJ Lee return to WWE?
Lee made a surprise appearance on SmackDown in September 2025. WWE described it as her first appearance in the company in more than 10 years. The return unfolded within the existing CM Punk–Seth Rollins rivalry: after Becky Lynch attacked Punk, Lee counterattacked Lynch and challenged both couples to a mixed-tag match. WWE’s September 8 match announcement recounts that setup.
WWE also announced Lee’s Raw appearance for that evening, calling it her first Raw appearance in over 10 years and identifying her as a three-time Divas Champion. The announcement establishes the milestone, but the return story’s first major match was scheduled for Wrestlepalooza.
How did the return run develop?
Wrestlepalooza: Lee teams with CM Punk
WWE billed the September 20, 2025 mixed-tag match as CM Punk and AJ Lee against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. It connected Lee’s comeback to Punk’s dispute with Rollins while giving Lee and Lynch their own immediate confrontation. The announcement said the event would stream live at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on the ESPN App in the United States and on Netflix internationally. Those were the stated arrangements for that 2025 event, not a guide to current streaming rights or catalogs.

Survivor Series: WarGames extends the Lynch rivalry
In a later account of the feud, WWE said Lee helped her team win at Survivor Series: WarGames by making Lynch submit to the Black Widow. WWE’s February 9, 2026 Elimination Chamber preview also says Lee had earlier distracted Lynch, contributing to Lynch losing the Women’s Intercontinental Championship to Maxxine Dupri on Raw. Lynch later regained the title from Dupri and challenged Lee.
Elimination Chamber: Lee wins the championship
On February 28, 2026, Lee defeated Lynch to capture the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. WWE’s Elimination Chamber event archive records the result. It is the clearest championship payoff in the documented return arc: Lee’s comeback moved from a surprise appearance and tag-team pairing into a singles title win over the rival who had been central to its story.

What the record does—and does not—establish
The official WWE accounts support the main sequence: Lee returned after more than a decade away, partnered with Punk against Lynch and Rollins, submitted Lynch at WarGames, and defeated her for the title at Elimination Chamber. They do not establish Lee’s private goals, contract details, or WWE’s internal booking rationale. Nor do the sources cited here provide a complete match-by-match appearance record through October 7, 2026; the account above is the documented arc through the February title result.
