Johnson after a GoFundMe campaign for his legal expenses raised a reported $43,111. The fundraiser followed wife Angela Deem’s annulment filing; Michael’s court response sought a divorce instead. The case ultimately ended in divorce, finalized in March 2026.
Why Michael Ilesanmi raised money for legal expenses
Angela Deem filed for an annulment in Georgia in June 2024, according to The Ashley’s August 21, 2024 report. Michael launched the GoFundMe in August, saying he needed help with legal expenses and advice. The campaign was intended to fund his response to the annulment case.

On August 20, Starcasm reported that attorney Andrea M. Johnson of Vayman & Teitelbaum, P.C. had filed an entry of appearance for Michael in Jeff Davis Superior Court. The outlet said the filing came exactly one week after the fundraiser launched. Johnson’s appearance meant Michael had legal representation in the case; the cited coverage did not include a statement from her.
How much the GoFundMe raised
Reported totals vary because they refer to different dates. Starcasm reported $43,111 from more than 2,200 donations on August 20, 2024. The next day, The Ashley described the total as more than $43,000 from more than 2,200 donors. Those figures describe the campaign at the time, not its eventual total.

The fundraising amounts are outlet-reported totals at particular points in time, not figures from a statistical study. Angela responded to the donations in a statement quoted by The Ashley: “Wake up, America! This is unacceptable … .”
What Michael sought in court
Angela alleged that Michael had fraudulently induced her to marry him to obtain U.S. legal permanent resident status. Michael denied that allegation and, in his response, alleged cruel treatment and physical and mental abuse. These were opposing claims described in reporting about the court filings, not findings of fact established by the cited coverage.
According to Starcasm’s later account of the court case, Michael’s lawyer filed an answer and counterclaim on August 21, 2024, seeking a divorce rather than an annulment. A motion to dismiss Angela’s annulment complaint was filed on May 29, 2025, the outlet reported.

The case ended in divorce in 2026
Starcasm reported that Judge Roger B. Lane signed the final judgment and decree of divorce on March 10, 2026. The outlet said Michael announced the result that day in an Instagram video outside the Jeff Davis County Courthouse. He said, “Finally! I’m divorced,” and thanked supporters: “It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I want to say thank you to everybody. God bless you all.”

The Ashley’s March 2026 account also described settlement terms, including no alimony and a bar on false public statements between the former spouses. Because that account attributed the terms to a shared settlement and Instagram reporting rather than an independently reviewed court document, those details should be treated as reported terms, not independently verified here.
