Buck’s bisexuality becomes explicit in 9-1-1’s seventh season, through his relationship with Tommy and a coming-out conversation with Eddie. The storyline felt long anticipated to many viewers because it followed years of fan attention to Buck and Eddie’s close bond—but that audience expectation is not proof that the writers deliberately waited or had a specific plan for the timing.
When does Buck come out as bisexual?
Buck’s bisexuality is made explicit in season 7. The arc develops as he begins a relationship with Tommy, and includes Buck coming out to Eddie. Bi.org identifies season 7, episode 6 as the point when Buck comes out to the main characters; TV Insider also discusses the season’s storyline and Buck’s relationship with Tommy.
Why did Buck’s coming-out storyline feel long overdue?
“Long time coming” describes how the story landed with viewers, not a confirmed production delay. Fans had speculated about the close relationship between Buck and Eddie, and coverage of the season 7 storyline placed Buck’s exploration of his bisexuality alongside that friendship. The combination made Buck’s story feel anticipated, but fan interpretation should not be mistaken for evidence that the show had planned a particular reveal for years.
That distinction matters: the series confirms Buck’s bisexuality, not Eddie’s. Speculation about Eddie’s identity or hopes for a Buck-and-Eddie romance are separate from what the season 7 plot establishes.

What made Buck and Eddie’s coming-out scene meaningful?
Ryan Guzman, who plays Eddie, praised the scene for showing a bisexual man coming out to a heterosexual friend who responds with care. In a TV Insider interview, Guzman described the value of depicting “a bisexual man coming out to a heterosexual man” and receiving a safe, nurturing response. He also told TV Guide that he valued seeing a heterosexual and bisexual man remain best friends and brothers “without anything changing, without any kind of awkwardness or weirdness.”
The emphasis is not on Eddie having to resolve Buck’s identity or on their friendship becoming a romance. It is on Buck being able to tell someone close to him and still be accepted. Guzman’s comments frame the scene as an example of friendship that can hold a vulnerable disclosure without making it a source of discomfort.

What happens with Buck and Tommy?
Tommy is part of the season 7 arc that makes Buck’s bisexuality explicit. Later reporting by TVLine described Buck and Tommy’s relationship as leaving Buck heartbroken. That relationship outcome does not undo Buck’s bisexuality, and it does not establish that Buck will eventually become romantically involved with Eddie.
