A 2023 estimate put Jay Leno’s researched list of 185 cars at $80 million to $100 million. That range was attributed to VINwiki by Agora Motor; it is a reported estimate, not a confirmed sale total or proof that all 185 cars received individual valuations.
What the 2023 estimate covers
VINwiki published an appraisal video on January 17, 2023, titled “We Appraised JAY LENO’s Car Collection (185 cars!).” The video concerned a researched list of 185 cars. Supercars.net says presenter Ed Bolian reviewed the list with automotive specialists John Temerian and John Ficarra, but the video did not go through every car. Agora Motor’s April 25, 2023 article attributes the $80 million to $100 million estimate to VINwiki. Supercars.net’s account and Agora Motor’s article provide that context.
The distinction matters: the range describes an estimate associated with the list, not a disclosed transaction, a formal appraisal report covering every vehicle, or a verified current market value.
How reported estimates compare
| Publication | Reported estimate | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Agora Motor, 2023 | $80 million to $100 million | Attributed to VINwiki and associated with the researched 185-car list; not established as a complete formal appraisal. |
| CarParts.com Research Team, updated 2024 | $52 million to $100 million | Described as a rough estimate for the collection; the article notes that one-off cars and changing rare-car prices make an exact total difficult to gauge. |
The 2024 range is a later secondary estimate, not a documented correction to VINwiki’s 2023 figure. CarParts.com’s explainer emphasizes the uncertainty involved in valuing unusual vehicles and a collection whose contents may not be valued on the same basis.

Cars highlighted in the 2023 article
Agora Motor named several vehicles while discussing the collection. Its figures are approximate estimates reported by that article, not independently verified appraisals or realized sale prices.
| Vehicle | Approximate figure reported by Agora Motor in 2023 |
|---|---|
| Pratt and Miller C6RS Corvette | About $300,000 |
| 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car | $5 million to $10 million |
| Duesenberg J Walker Coupe | $2.7 million to $3.2 million |
| McLaren F1 | About $16 million |
| Bugatti Type 51 | About $3.2 million |
Why there is no single settled total
Rare vehicles can be difficult to price, particularly when they are one-offs or have few comparable sales. An estimate also depends on which vehicles are included and how they are valued. The sources reporting these totals do not establish a formal appraisal of every car or a sale that would confirm a collection-wide market value.

Leno addressed the question directly in a later interview with journalist Kerry Eggers: “Oh, I don’t know. People always ask that. ‘How much did this cost?’ I really don’t know what it’s worth. I never sell anything, so technically, it’s not really worth anything until after I die.” His comment explains why he does not give a total; it does not establish that the cars have no market value. The 185 figure belongs to the 2023 appraisal video’s researched list. In the later Eggers interview, Leno said about 210 cars and 168 motorcycles were stored at his 140,000-square-foot garage. Those are different counts reported at different times; the later figure should not be substituted into the 2023 estimate.
