There is no reliable, verified roster of eight celebrities who “bared it all” and eight who refused. The distinction is also not a permanent one: a performer may appear nude in one project, use a body double in another, or set conditions around particular scenes. What can be documented is more specific: Keira Knightley’s qualified limits, Lena Headey’s choice to use a double for one sequence, and the important difference between nudity, sex scenes and implied exposure.
Why an eight-and-eight list would be misleading
The evidence available for this subject does not establish a complete, independently verified list of 16 performers. More importantly, “bared it all” and “refused” flatten decisions that are often specific to a project, scene, director or production method. A nude appearance does not mean an actor accepts every kind of nudity or a simulated sex scene; declining one scene does not establish a blanket policy.
- Nudity and sex scenes are not interchangeable. A scene may involve nudity without sex, or intimacy without full nudity.
- Partial, implied and full nudity differ. A description should identify what is actually shown rather than imply more.
- A body double changes who appears in the image. The performer may act the scene while a double supplies some or all of the visible nudity.
- A stated limit needs its context. An actor’s comments about one role or kind of scene do not prove a permanent rule.
Performers whose choices are documented
Keira Knightley: a qualified limit, not an absolute ban
In a 2021 conversation with director Lulu Wang and journalist Diane Solway, Knightley said, “I don’t have an absolute ban. But I kind of do with men.” The Los Angeles Times reported that she had added a no-nudity clause to her contracts, while leaving room for an exception for a story about motherhood and body acceptance made with a female filmmaker. Los Angeles Times, Jan. 25, 2021.
ITV News quoted the same qualified position and reported her discomfort with portraying the male gaze. Her remarks describe conditions and concerns, not a claim that she has never appeared nude or will never do so. ITV News, Jan. 25, 2021.

Lena Headey: a double for one particular sequence
Headey’s use of body double Rebecca Van Cleave for Cersei’s walk-of-shame sequence in Game of Thrones is not evidence of a general refusal to appear nude. Headey told TIME, “I’ve done nudity. I’m not adverse to it.” She explained that she did not want to be naked for three days while carrying the character’s emotions through the sequence, and praised Van Cleave’s work. The choice concerned that demanding scene, not a blanket position on nudity. TIME, Apr. 18, 2016.
Olivia Hussey: comments on a scene, followed years later by a lawsuit
In a 2018 interview with the Associated Press, Hussey discussed the nude scene in the 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, saying, “Nobody my age had done that before,” and, “It was needed for the film.” Those comments predated a 2023 lawsuit brought by Hussey and Leonard Whiting. The AP reported allegations in the filing about the scene, which was filmed when they were teenagers. The allegations should be attributed to the plaintiffs; they are not, by themselves, a court finding. Hussey’s earlier comments do not resolve the later claims. Associated Press, 2023.

Recent examples require scene-by-scene verification
Entertainment roundups have recently cited Mikey Madison’s nudity in Anora, Ben Affleck’s brief nudity in Gone Girl, and Megan Fox’s comments about turning down certain roles. These are leads, not enough on their own to classify someone as a person who “bared it all” or categorically refused nudity. A sound account should verify the actual scene and consult the underlying interview for the actor’s own words. The same caution applies to Jennifer Lawrence’s comments about nudity in Die My Love: they concern that film and her pregnancy during filming, not a general policy.

- Which film or series, and which scene, is being discussed?
- Is the image full, partial or implied nudity, and is it a sex scene or non-sexual nudity?
- Did the performer appear, or did a body double supply the visible nudity?
- Did the actor describe a general policy, or a limit tied to a specific project, scene or filmmaker?
- For a disputed scene or legal claim, is the statement an allegation, a reported account or a court finding?
That level of specificity makes the comparison fairer and avoids turning a single professional decision into a permanent label.
