Lio Tipton is an actor and former model whose career moved from synchronized figure skating to reality television and then to film and television roles. Their name and pronouns are Lio and they/them, as Tipton stated publicly in 2021.

1. Synchronized skating came before entertainment
Before modeling and acting, Tipton competed in synchronized figure skating. TV Guide lists participation in the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, but does not establish a reliable number of competitions or any placements or medals. TV Guide’s biography documents the skating background.
2. They trained at the New York Film Academy
Tipton attended the New York Film Academy’s New York City campus and graduated in 2005, according to the academy’s alumni profile. The profile records their training before listing acting credits.

3. Modeling was their route into entertainment
Tipton began in modeling before moving into acting. In a 2022 interview with Out, they reflected on reaching a point where they were “not trying to be something that the industry might want,” and said they were proud to keep working while being themself. The interview connects that perspective to their work and identity.
4. They placed third on Cycle 11 of America’s Next Top Model
Tipton competed on Cycle 11 of America’s Next Top Model and finished in third place. The placement is identified in Out’s 2022 interview and in NYFA’s alumni profile, which describes the cycle as the point when Tipton rose to fame.

5. Crazy, Stupid, Love brought a prominent early film role
In the 2011 film Crazy, Stupid, Love, Tipton played Jessica Riley, a teenage babysitter. Entertainment Tonight identifies the role, one of the credits that helped introduce Tipton to movie audiences.
6. Their credits range across genres and television

7. They approached A Friend of the Family through a complicated character
In the 2022 series A Friend of the Family, Tipton played Gail Berchtold, a real-life figure connected to a case of abuse and manipulation. In Out’s interview, Tipton said they wanted to bring empathy to the role and described Berchtold as also having been victimized by manipulation. 8. Tipton publicly shared their name, identity, and pronouns in 2021
On June 4, 2021, Tipton announced: “My name is Lio. My pronouns are they/them. I am proud to announce I am queer and I identify as nonbinary.” Out reproduced the announcement in its report on the statement. Use Lio and they/them when referring to Tipton.
