| Arrival date in 2024 | Movie | Genre and premise |
|---|---|---|
| August 1 | Mr. Deeds | Light comedy starring Adam Sandler as a small-town pizzeria owner who inherits a media empire. The original roundup noted that some jokes have aged unevenly. |
| August 1 | Room | Survival drama based on Emma Donoghue’s novel, about a young woman and her son held captive. It deals with upsetting subject matter and features Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. |
| August 2 | Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie | Family animation in which Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob travel to Texas after Bikini Bottom’s residents are scooped from the ocean. |
| August 16 | Pearl | Ti West’s horror film, an origin story for its title character and the second movie in the X trilogy. Pearl lives on a Texas farm with her immigrant parents and dreams of becoming a film star. |
| August 16 | The Union | Action-comedy starring Mark Wahlberg as a construction worker recruited for an intelligence mission by his former high-school sweetheart, played by Halle Berry. |
| August 30 | The Deliverance | Supernatural horror directed by Lee Daniels, about a single mother confronting demons. |
What should you choose based on mood?
For horror
Pearl is the clearest pick if you want a character-focused horror story and a connection to the X trilogy. The Deliverance offers a supernatural premise instead. Both were listed for August 2024, but the roundup is not a comparative review or a claim that one is better.
For SpongeBob and family animation
Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is the SpongeBob-linked choice. Netflix’s Tudum synopsis confirms that Sandy and SpongeBob journey to Texas to save Bikini Bottom after its residents are taken from the ocean. The page lists Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy, Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, and a cast including Wanda Sykes, Clancy Brown, and Bill Fagerbakke. Netflix’s US title page identifies it as a 2024 kids and family movie with a TV-Y7 rating.
#1 Best Overall
For comedy or drama
The August 1 pair, Mr. Deeds and Room, share a date but not a tone: one is a light comedy, while the other is a distressing survival drama. Choose by the experience you want, especially if upsetting subject matter is a concern.
For action-comedy
The Union pairs an intelligence-mission setup with a former-school-sweetheart reunion. Its August 16 listing puts it on the same date as Pearl, but the two serve very different moods.

Are these movies on Netflix now?
The dates in this list refer to August 2024. They do not establish that any of the six titles is available today, or that a title is available in every country. Netflix’s current US page describes Saving Bikini Bottom, but a regional listing can differ and catalog availability can change. Search the title in Netflix in your country to confirm before planning a watch.
The original roundup was published by BGR on August 1, 2024; its schedule should be read as a snapshot of that month, not a present-tense catalog guide.
