Movie watches are not all the same kind of object: some are bespoke props, some reproduce historical timepieces, and some later inspire retail models. These five examples—from Tenet, End of Days, Master and Commander, Kingsman and Interstellar—show why the distinction matters.
How these five film watches differ
The watches below fall into several categories: a custom device built for a film, a prop that led to a limited commercial edition, a period-style reproduction, commissioned watches selected for a character, and a prop that inspired a lasting collection model. A product associated with a movie is not necessarily the same watch seen on screen.

Tenet: Hamilton built a watch around the film’s needs
Hamilton worked with the Tenet design team to create a custom prop based on the Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO. The screen watch has a black military-style appearance, with a bright digital display set into an otherwise analogue-looking dial. The film prop’s mechanical movement was replaced with a digital one, and a powerful battery illuminated the display.
Swatch Group says the film required features that were not available in a commercial Hamilton watch. Development and testing took 18 months, and Hamilton produced dozens of final prop watches for filming. Production designer Nathan Crowley said: “I’m always impressed by Hamilton’s dedication to excellence and their willingness to think outside the box to create timepieces that do so much more than tell time.” (Swatch Group)

The retail BeLOWZERO is inspired by the prop, not identical to it
Hamilton also released a special edition based on the Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO. Swatch Group describes its lightweight titanium case and seconds hand tipped in either red or blue; each color version was limited to 888 pieces. The source does not say this commercial edition has the prop’s custom digital display, so the two should not be treated as the same watch.
End of Days: a non-timekeeping prop and a reported limited edition
According to Time+Tide’s 2020 account, Audemars Piguet was approached to create a watch for Arnold Schwarzenegger to wear in End of Days. The first watch was a conceptual prop that did not keep time. After interest in the screen prop, AP made a limited Royal Oak Offshore End of Days release reported at 500 pieces.

Time+Tide describes the released watch as a steel Offshore with black PVD coating, a black dial, and bright yellow hands and indexes. These details and the edition size are attributed to that publication; the cited material does not include official AP confirmation. The prop and the later commercial edition are distinct. Master and Commander: Breguet made a historical reproduction for the film
For Master and Commander, prop master Doug Harlocker wanted a watch appropriate to the film’s historical setting. He contacted Breguet to reproduce a watch the company had made in the 1700s. “I contacted Breguet to duplicate a watch that they had made in the 1700s to use in the film,” Harlocker said. He described Breguet as taking on the challenge and supplying a period-authentic pocket watch.

This was a historically grounded film prop, not evidence that a standard retail model was selected for the production. The account appears in Time+Tide’s 2020 article.
Kingsman: three Bremont commissions for the original film
Time+Tide reports that three Bremont watches were specially commissioned for Colin Firth and Taron Egerton in the original Kingsman film. Director Matthew Vaughn said he preferred British brands and felt Bremont suited the film’s practical-spy and gentlemanly image: “You can tell more about a person by his watch and his shoes.”

The three-watch figure applies to the original film, not the franchise as a whole. Time+Tide notes that later Kingsman films used other watch brands; its account does not establish a retail counterpart or current availability for the commissions.

Hamilton worked with Christopher Nolan on two key watch props for Interstellar, associated with the main characters Cooper and Murph. Production designer Nathan Crowley explained their importance: “When we made Interstellar, we invited Hamilton to create two key props, which of course are the watches for our two main characters.” Hamilton’s film-history account presents the watches as part of the characters’ story, not merely costume accessories. Murph’s watch moved from prop to collection model
Time+Tide reports that Hamilton first made Murph’s watch as a prop, then introduced the Khaki Field Murph Auto as a permanent collection model in 2019. Its seconds hand carries “Eureka” in Morse code. The retail watch was inspired by the screen prop; it should not be described as literally the original prop.
What makes a movie watch a collaboration?
Hamilton’s examples show two different routes: a bespoke Tenet device built around a film requirement, followed by a separate inspired-by special edition; and the Interstellar Murph prop, which later informed a collection model. The End of Days story likewise separates a non-timekeeping concept prop from a reported limited commercial release.
Master and Commander is different: Breguet supplied a period-authentic reproduction for the production. And Kingsman involved three specially commissioned Bremont watches for the original film. These categories matter because “made for a movie” can mean a one-off prop, a historical replica, a commission, or a design that eventually reaches retail.
Hamilton says its involvement in film began in 1951; the cited Hamilton source record does not state a publication date for that history. Its 2023 Oppenheimer press release describes broader work with filmmakers, but does not add evidence about the five watches discussed here. (Hamilton; Hamilton)
