The most historically important TAG Heuer watch on film is the Heuer Monaco reference 1133B worn by Steve McQueen in Le Mans (1971). The other notable screen appearances are more varied: one is a later feature-film connection, while the remaining entries come from TAG Heuer promotional films. That distinction matters when weighing each watch’s place in film history.
How these five watches compare
This ranking considers historical influence, visibility and the nature of each film connection. A watch identified as part of a brand short is not the same kind of placement as one appearing in a feature film. The strength of the evidence also varies: TAG Heuer identifies a specific vintage reference for Le Mans, but only a collection for Gran Turismo.

1. Heuer Monaco reference 1133B in Le Mans (1971)
Steve McQueen’s Heuer Monaco is the essential entry. TAG Heuer’s vintage history identifies the watch he wore in Le Mans as reference 1133B, giving this film connection a specificity the later examples do not share. The film was shot in 1970 and released in 1971; “Heuer” is the historically appropriate name for the watch in that period. TAG Heuer traces the Monaco collection’s introduction to 1969. TAG Heuer’s vintage Monaco history recounts Jack Heuer’s early efforts at film product placement, including his recollection of recruiting Hollywood property master Don Nunley.
The standard production 1133B had a flat midnight-blue dial, white registers and red details on the hands. TAG Heuer’s vintage-history page describes the Monaco’s square case, metallic blue dial, domed glass and crown positioned on the left. Its stated 39 mm width is a general vintage Monaco dimension, not a specification for every Monaco then or now. TAG Heuer vintage Monaco details.

There is an important provenance distinction. In a 2024 account, TAG Heuer says six 1133B watches were sent for the production, but cautions that it is difficult to establish which individual pieces appear in particular shots. The model identification is well supported; assigning a specific surviving watch to a specific frame is not. TAG Heuer’s 2024 account of the Monaco in Le Mans.
2. TAG Heuer Monaco in Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story (2023)
TAG Heuer announced that a main character wears a Monaco in this feature film. The brand’s announcement identifies the collection, not a precise reference, so it is best understood as a modern feature-film counterpart to McQueen’s vintage Monaco—not as evidence that the same watch or specification returned to the screen. 3. TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph in The Chase for Carrera (2023)
This is a TAG Heuer promotional short starring Ryan Gosling, made for the Carrera’s 60th anniversary. TAG Heuer says the Carrera is at the center of the action. It is a clear example of the brand building a film around a watch collection, rather than a conventional third-party feature-film placement. TAG Heuer’s article on The Chase for Carrera.

4. TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 in the 2023 holiday film
TAG Heuer names the Connected Calibre E4 among the watches appearing in sets in its holiday film. That establishes a brand-film appearance, but not a major independent role in a feature or a story central to the watch. TAG Heuer’s holiday-film article.

The same holiday film places a Monaco Special Edition against a clock tower. TAG Heuer also describes a Carrera caseback used as a vault and a Carrera Chronograph worn by a stunt elf; the Monaco Special Edition is included here as a distinct named model, not as a separate film credit. What the screen history does—and does not—show
The 1133B’s enduring importance comes from the unusually direct link between an iconic actor, a specific watch reference and a feature film about motor racing. The later examples show the Monaco and Carrera collections continuing to appear in film-related storytelling, but they should not be ranked as equivalent evidence: Gran Turismo is a feature, while the Gosling Carrera short and holiday film were produced by TAG Heuer itself. None of these accounts establishes that a current Monaco is the same physical watch as a vintage 1133B used on the Le Mans set.
