Already streaming: East of Eden on Netflix
A new adaptation of Steinbeck’s novel
Netflix lists East of Eden as an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic. Its early-1900s story follows an independent woman whose choices divide two brothers, with events spanning two generations. The series arrived October 1, so it was available by October 7 according to Netflix’s October lineup.
If you want more context for the story, Steinbeck’s novel is a natural optional companion. You do not need to read it to start the adaptation.

Coming October 9: two very different films
Animals brings a family kidnapping crisis to Netflix
Scheduled for Netflix on October 9, Animals is a thriller about a Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife racing to meet a ransom demand after their son is kidnapped. The date and premise appear in Netflix’s October guide; the Associated Press also describes the film in its October streaming roundup. It is upcoming as of October 7, not already available.
Disclosure Day imagines extraterrestrial disclosure on Peacock
Peacock schedules Disclosure Day as a Peacock Exclusive for October 9 and describes it as a science-fiction story about extraterrestrial disclosure. The date is also confirmed in Peacock’s current catalog. The Associated Press identifies Josh O’Connor and Emily Blunt among the stars. In its review language, AP called it “a classic, big-hearted Spielberg adventure” and compared its secret-keeping conflict to a paranoid conspiracy thriller. That is the AP’s assessment, not a neutral description of the film’s quality.

Later in October: a Hulu premiere and Peacock horror
Phony premieres on Hulu October 20
Hulu’s official schedule lists Phony as a Hulu Original for October 20, and Disney+ Press also lists it as a premiere. Those schedule entries do not provide a plot description, so there is not enough information here to characterize its story or genre. Treat it as a date to note if you follow Hulu’s new originals, rather than choosing it on the basis of a premise that has not been stated in these listings.
Crystal Lake is the seasonal horror pick
Peacock’s October guide lists Crystal Lake as a Peacock Original series arriving October 15. It identifies Linda Cardellini as Pam Voorhees, Jason’s mother. The prequel setup and October timing make it the clearest horror choice among these five.
