In Western Australia, spring is September to November. Some activities below are year-round rather than spring-only; event dates and tour schedules need checking before you go.
Start with spring in Kings Park
Kings Park is the clearest seasonal anchor: its Western Australian Botanic Garden displays more than 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora. You can pair a look at the wildflowers with a guided walk or an easy wander through the park. See the Kings Park and Botanic Garden visitor information for current arrangements.
- See Western Australian wildflowers. Explore the Western Australian Botanic Garden and look for the range of native plants on display.
- Join a free daily guided walk. Kings Park lists departures at 10 am and 1 pm; confirm the day’s arrangements before setting out.
- Walk the seasonal Heart of the Park route. The park listed this bushland walk on Fridays from July to October 2026. Check whether it returns and confirm the current schedule.
- Take the Water Views and Bushland walk. This route combines Swan River and Perth city views. The 2026 listing showed Monday departures from July to October; check the live calendar for current dates.
- See a festival garden display. Look for the next Everlasting Kings Park Festival program if you want seasonal displays or flower-focused exhibits. The 2026 festival ran 18 September–4 October and has ended.
- Find a gardening or conservation workshop. The festival’s 2026 program included workshops and the Everlasting Ideas program. Check the next program for new sessions.
- Follow the Biosecurity Trail. This self-guided Kings Park trail highlights threats to Western Australia’s plant biodiversity.
- Look for school-holiday activities with children. The park listed a Spring Mud Kitchen and Loose Parts Bush Camp for 26 September–11 October 2026. Those dates have passed, so check whether either activity returns.
- Browse family activities and talks. The 2026 Everlasting program included family activities and guided walks; look for confirmed offerings in the next edition.
Enjoy Perth’s city, culture and coast
- Walk or run along the Swan River foreshore. Pair the riverside with a visit to Kings Park for city and river views.
- Explore central Perth’s laneways and arcades. Browse the shops, cafes and small bars tucked into the city centre.
- Book a theatre performance. Perth Concert Hall, State Theatre, Heath Ledger Theatre and His Majesty’s Theatre are among the venues to check. Confirm current listings and show times.
- Spend an evening in Northbridge. Make a night of theatre and bars in this inner-city neighbourhood.
- Visit Fremantle for its port atmosphere. Explore the streets, stop for coffee or craft beer, and try harbourside fish and chips.
- Tour Fremantle Prison. Tourism WA describes it as World Heritage-listed; check current opening hours and tour availability.
- Explore the WA Maritime Museum. Check the museum’s current hours and exhibitions before your visit.
- Go to Cottesloe Beach. A spring beach visit can run into sunset over the Indian Ocean.
Make a day of Rottnest Island
Ferries run to Rottnest Island from Perth or Fremantle. The car-free island offers beaches, bays, reefs, surf breaks and swimming spots; allow time to plan your transport and day.
- Take a ferry day trip. Check current departure options and book transport to suit your schedule.
- Cycle or walk around the island. Choose a distance that fits your day, and check routes and island transport conditions first.
- Spend time at a beach or bay. Little Parakeet Bay is one option named in Tourism WA’s itinerary.
- Look for quokkas respectfully. Observe wildlife without touching or feeding it, and follow local guidance.
Eat and drink in the Swan Valley
- Plan an alfresco lunch. Make a meal outdoors part of a Swan Valley outing.
- Visit a winery cellar door. Arrange responsible transport before tasting wine.
- Choose a craft-beer garden. Make an afternoon of food and drinks in the valley.
Head south to Rockingham and Mandurah
- Spend time on Rockingham’s waterfront. Choose a promenade stroll, or stop at a waterfront bar or eatery.
- Visit Mandurah’s waterfront and beaches. Tourism WA describes Mandurah as roughly an hour from Perth; actual journey times depend on your route and conditions.
- Look into a dolphin experience near Mandurah. Tourism WA says wild dolphins congregate close to shore. Check the operator’s current schedule and wildlife-viewing practices before booking.
- Consider a Shoalwater Islands Marine Park cruise. Tours may offer the chance to see sea lions and penguins, subject to current operator schedules and conditions.
Look beyond the city for a longer spring outing
- Check for another Perth Wildflower Spring Tour. The listed 2026 ticketed tour ran 6 September–4 October, dates that have passed. Its itinerary combined Kings Park, Chittering Valley bush trails, Wheatbelt canola, lunch, botanical art and a winery. Do not assume it will return; confirm any future edition before making plans.
- Use Perth as a base for a regional day out. The Perth Hills, Peel and Avon Valley are among the areas highlighted for wildflower season in Destination Perth’s 2026 calendar. Chittering and the Wheatbelt also feature in the listed tour itinerary. Check distances, seasonal conditions and live local information before choosing a destination.
