The Mandalorian and Grogu — a Star Wars story on the big screen

The year’s slate spans very different kinds of science fiction and adjacent genres. These distinctions help narrow a watchlist without treating every franchise or fantasy hybrid as the same kind of movie.
- For a book-to-screen story: Project Hail Mary adapts Andy Weir’s novel, while Dune: Part Three adapts Dune Messiah. Either book is optional source reading, not a stated prerequisite.
- For comic-book adaptation: Supergirl draws on the 2021–22 Woman of Tomorrow miniseries.
- For AI and near-future speculation: Hot Spot has the clearest AI-centered premise in this selection.
- For extraterrestrial contact: Disclosure Day centers on contact becoming public, although the consulted premise does not reveal more plot detail.
