Andrew Walker returns as Luke Brenner in Hallmark’s Three Wiser Men and a Boy, a sequel set five years after Three Wise Men and a Baby. Luke is now raising Thomas and trying to understand who he is beyond the firefighter and carefree bachelor he used to be. Walker’s account of revisiting the role—and the cast’s hands-on work shaping scenes—offers a useful lens on how the follow-up brings its familiar brothers into a new stage of family life.
What is Three Wiser Men and a Boy about?
The 2024 Hallmark sequel jumps five years ahead from Three Wise Men and a Baby. Thomas, whom Luke found as a baby at his fire station in the first film, is now six and in first grade. Luke is a father, and his brothers’ lives have also moved on: Stephan, played by Paul Campbell, is an anxious dog therapist, while Taylor, played by Tyler Hynes, works as a video-game developer. TV Insider’s November 14, 2024 interview with Walker describes Luke as settled with Thomas and Thomas’s mother, but uncertain about parts of himself he feels he has lost.

The immediate story begins when the director of Thomas’s school holiday musical steps down. Luke takes over the production and enlists Stephan and Taylor, drawing the three brothers into a project that becomes a family affair. Their mother Barbara, played by Margaret Colin, also brings a new boyfriend into the picture, stirring insecurities and feelings the brothers have kept to themselves. TV Guide’s set interview and Us Weekly’s set report describe the school musical as the plot’s central catalyst.
Campbell and Kimberley Sustad co-wrote the films; Sustad also makes a cameo in the sequel. Miles Marthaller returns as Thomas, alongside the three actors playing the Brenner brothers.

How Andrew Walker says Luke has changed
Walker described the contrast between Luke’s old role at the fire station and the priorities of fatherhood in his TV Insider interview. “He was the main guy at the fire station. He was the young guy that could do the heavy lifting. He lived a single life…now he’s a dad and that’s the most important thing to him,” Walker said. He also summed up Luke’s internal shift this way: “five years have flown by and he’s lost track of who he is.”
That change gives Luke more to contend with than the practical demands of parenting. His life has become more settled, but that stability has altered the identity he once took for granted. The sequel places that uncertainty alongside Thomas’s growing independence and the brothers’ familiar habit of getting pulled into one another’s problems.

How the cast worked to bring the Brenner brothers back
Returning to a successful ensemble meant finding the characters again rather than simply repeating their earlier rhythms. Walker told TV Guide that the first few days of production carried “this unspoken pressure.” The cast revisited scenes, rewrote and added moments, and worked to make sure the characters still felt authentic. Walker said they hoped viewers would leave feeling the sequel was “just as good or better than the first one.” These are Walker’s comments in Philiana Ng’s TV Guide interview, published November 21, 2024.
Campbell told TV Guide, “We all work very well together and we have three very distinct personalities.” That contrast is part of the comedy’s engine: the brothers can respond to the same family predicament in sharply different ways, while their established rapport lets a scene move between scripted material and spontaneous exchanges.

Hynes prompted them to wrap the actors in paper and ribbon, producing an unscripted moment. Walker compared the result to “Kindergarten Cop,” while Campbell said the spontaneity brought “a real authenticity.” The episode illustrates how the performers’ collaboration could generate material that suited the family-and-school setting.
What the Canadian school shoot adds to the story
The production filmed in spring in Canada, including at a functioning high school. Us Weekly reported that the three-week schedule was arranged around classes and the school bell, with the production using rooms and the theater. That setting fits a story built around a child’s school musical, while the practical schedule meant the crew had to work around an active school community.

The seasonal appearance required some production sleight of hand. TV Guide reported that performers wore winter clothes in warm spring weather, while crew members hosed pavement and used fish ice to suggest winter conditions. Us Weekly also noted the fish ice and holiday decorations. These are details from set reporting, not evidence about the film’s overall budget or production methods beyond the scenes and location described.

A third film was not confirmed in the November 2024 TV Guide interview. Campbell said he would not rule one out but did not know whether it would happen. Walker said the cast would need to reassess and that he did not want audiences to tire of the franchise. Hynes floated the idea of returning much later if viewers wanted a trilogy.

Those remarks record the actors’ thinking at the time of that interview; they do not establish the franchise’s current plans. The sequel gives the Brenner family another chapter, but the cast’s comments leave a continuation open rather than promised.
