She described building a more social life there and said, at the time, “I’m happier now than I have been in a long time.” The account framed the move as a personal adjustment—not an announcement that she was leaving acting.
Why did Andie MacDowell move back to South Carolina?
In an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, discussed in a January 24, 2025 Southern Living article carried by Yahoo Entertainment, MacDowell connected the move with becoming an empty nester. After her children left home, she felt a void and began thinking about how to shape her own life.
MacDowell recounted that her daughter Margaret told her, “Margaret basically told me I needed to get a life.” She said she went on to create one for herself. The community she described in South Carolina made it easier to socialize with people her age, which was part of why the move suited her.
Did she leave Hollywood or retire from acting?
The 2025 account does not say MacDowell retired or quit acting. It identifies her as playing Del Landry in Hallmark’s The Way Home. “Leaving Hollywood” is therefore best understood as a description of relocating, not evidence that she ended her screen career.

Those were schedule details reported in January 2025, not confirmation of the show’s schedule or availability in October 2026.
