Christopher Reeve had three children: Matthew and Alexandra, his children with Gae Exton, and Will, his son with Dana Reeve. They were 15, 11 and 2, respectively, when Reeve was injured in a 1995 horse-riding accident, according to Alexandra’s recollection. In Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, all three share memories and family archives, offering a portrait that includes their father’s public legacy as well as the complexities of family life.
Who are Christopher Reeve’s children?
- Matthew Reeve is Christopher Reeve’s son with Gae Exton.
- Alexandra Reeve is Christopher Reeve’s daughter with Gae Exton.
- Will Reeve is his son with Dana Reeve.
The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation says all three are actively involved with the organization. Its biography of Christopher Reeve also records his spinal-cord injury on May 27, 1995, following a fall during a horse competition, and his death on October 10, 2004, aged 52.

How old were the children when their father was injured?
In an October 19, 2024, interview with ABC News, Alexandra recalled that she was 11 and Matthew was 15 when the accident happened. Will was 2 and turned 3 while his father was in intensive care. These are the ages Alexandra gave in describing the family’s experience, rather than ages calculated here from birth dates.
What do the siblings say about their father?
The siblings’ recollections hold more than one truth at once: Christopher Reeve was a celebrated actor and advocate, and Matthew and Alexandra said he was not regularly present during parts of their childhood. The Associated Press reported that the older siblings wanted the film to include that complexity rather than restrict its subjects or archival material.

That candor is not simply a rejection of their father’s legacy. The Foundation’s feature on the film describes a family portrait that takes in Reeve’s ambitions, advocacy, frustrations and relationships. Alexandra recalled the effort to preserve ordinary happiness during a frightening time: “But at the same time, we saw what it was to try and create joy, to be together as a family.”
Will also insists that the story include his mother. Speaking to ABC News about the documentary, he said: “There is no Christopher Reeve story without Dana Reeve, without my mom, and she was a singular gift to the world.” His comment places Dana’s caregiving and place in the family at the center of the story, not at its margins.

How are Matthew, Alexandra and Will involved in Super/Man?
The three siblings participated in personal interviews and shared family archives for Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. The Reeve Foundation describes the documentary as featuring their recollections alongside rare home movies. The Associated Press reported that the siblings wanted an honest, multidimensional account. Will described their aim as “a 360-degree view of a very human life, of a very human family.”
Matthew told the Foundation that the film should not reduce their father’s life to a simple before-and-after story organized around the accident: “Our father’s story was much more interesting than that.” The documentary’s value for understanding the children is therefore not just that it preserves memories; it lets them frame what their father’s story means to their family.

For Reeve’s own account, Still Me is his autobiography, published by Random House in April 1998. The Foundation says its audio recording earned him a Grammy in February 1999. It is a first-person memoir by Christopher, not a biography of his children. The family documentary offers a different perspective through the siblings’ interviews and shared archives.
