Some 60 Minutes correspondents are reportedly paid as much as $5 million a year, but that figure comes from anonymous sources cited by a news outlet—not a public CBS salary schedule. Reports also put senior producers’ pay in the hundreds of thousands. Those numbers are striking, but they do not establish whether the program’s employees are paid fairly: the available figures do not show the full workforce, benefits, workloads, contracts, or comparable pay for similar jobs.
How much do 60 Minutes correspondents reportedly make?
A June 2, 2026, report by The Daily Beast, citing two unnamed people familiar with CBS News’s business, said 60 Minutes correspondents can earn up to $5 million a year. This is a reported upper-end figure, not a verified salary for every correspondent or a published CBS pay scale. The report does not identify the correspondents earning that amount.
What do reports say other 60 Minutes staff earn?
Published estimates cover a few roles, but they are not a complete accounting of program salaries. The figures below should be read with their sources and limitations attached.
| Role or cost | Reported amount | What the report establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Executive producer Nick Bilton | $2.5 million annually | TV Insider reported this figure on June 6, 2026, citing Page Six. CBS’s announcement of Bilton’s appointment did not disclose his salary. TV Insider |
| Former executive producer Tanya Simon | $1.5 million annually, implied | TV Insider said Simon earned $1 million less than Bilton. The $1.5 million figure is arithmetic implied by that reported comparison, not an independently quoted or CBS-confirmed salary. TV Insider |
| Senior producers on correspondent-led teams | $200,000–$300,000 annually | The Daily Beast attributed this estimate to two unnamed sources. The Daily Beast |
| Associate producers | Up to $150,000 annually | The Daily Beast attributed this estimate to two unnamed sources. The Daily Beast |
| Travel, research, and production costs per story | About $75,000 | The Daily Beast reported this as an estimated story cost, not employee compensation. The Daily Beast |
The producer and correspondent estimates come from secondary reporting, not disclosed individual contracts or auditable payroll records. The $75,000 story-cost estimate is a separate production expense and should not be treated as pay.

Does the union agreement show what the whole staff earns?
No. The WGA-CBS agreement is a primary document for the employee categories and terms it covers, including writers and other defined groups. Its stated 2022–2025 term does not establish current terms without a successor agreement, and its scope does not provide a salary table for on-air correspondents or every person working on 60 Minutes. Read the WGA-CBS agreement for its classifications and coverage.
Are 60 Minutes employees paid fairly?
The available evidence cannot support a firm fairness verdict. A high reported salary alone does not show whether compensation is fair, and the public figures do not supply the matched information needed to assess pay across the program or against comparable jobs.

A meaningful comparison would need to account for:
- Comparable work: editorial responsibility, role, experience, and output—not a broad comparison with all journalists or television personalities.
- Total compensation: salary, bonuses, benefits, and contract duration or security.
- Workload and tenure: the demands and experience associated with each job.
- Employment and bargaining status: staff versus individually negotiated contracts, and whether a role falls under a collective agreement.
- A relevant peer group and date: similar national broadcast newsmagazine and investigative reporting jobs, using current, matched figures.
The reports provide selected estimates but not those complete comparisons. They also do not provide full benefit details or enough information to compare workers across roles. That leaves the central question—whether employees are paid fairly—undetermined.

CBS News announced Nick Bilton’s appointment as executive producer on May 28, 2026; the announcement confirms the leadership change, not the salary figures reported elsewhere. CBS News’s announcement also records statements from Bilton and CBS News president Tom Cibrowski about the program’s direction, but those statements are not evidence about compensation.

An Associated Press report in July 2026 described a lineup that included contributors Ross Douthat, Norah O’Donnell, Sebastian Junger, Trevor Phillips, and Gianna Toboni, alongside correspondents Lesley Stahl, Jon Wertheim, and Bill Whitaker. That is a dated roster, not a complete employee list or a source of pay information. Associated Press
Separately, the Los Angeles Times reported criticism of CBS leadership from WGA East and SAG-AFTRA after personnel changes. That labor context does not amount to an independent finding that salaries are fair or unfair. Los Angeles Times
