Yes. In 2008, Shaniqua Tompkins blamed 50 Cent, whose legal name is Curtis Jackson, for a fire at a Long Island home where she and their son Marquise were staying. Jackson denied involvement. The fire was investigated as suspicious, but contemporary reporting said its cause remained undetermined; the available sources do not establish that Jackson set it.
What happened at the Dix Hills home?
A fire was reported at 4:59 a.m. on May 30, 2008, at a home in Dix Hills, Long Island, owned by Jackson. Six people inside were treated for smoke inhalation and later released. Tompkins and two of her children were among them; one was Marquise, her son with Jackson. An off-duty police officer helped occupants escape from an elevated deck. CBS/AP reported these details at the time.
Jackson was away filming in Louisiana, according to his representative and contemporaneous reporting. The Dix Hills fire chief considered the blaze suspicious and referred it to Suffolk County’s arson squad. That description explains why investigators examined the fire; it does not identify who caused it or prove that Jackson was involved.
What did Tompkins and Jackson say?
Tompkins’s accusation
Tompkins blamed Jackson and said he had threatened her days before the fire, according to Newsday’s August 2008 report, republished by FireRescue1. These were her claims, not an investigative finding.

Jackson’s denial
Jackson denied involvement. His lawyer told The Observer: “Any suggestion that Mr Jackson had anything whatsoever to do with the fire at his home is outrageous and offensive.” The Observer’s report records the lawyer’s response; a denial, like an accusation, does not establish what caused the fire.
What did investigators determine?
In August 2008, Suffolk arson investigator Det. Sgt. Edward Fitzgerald said Jackson had been interviewed and was “very cooperative.” Fitzgerald explained: “Every fire we investigate, whether the subject was there or not, we interview the homeowner.” The same Newsday report said investigators had not determined the cause and were continuing to interview people. It does not report a later determination identifying a perpetrator.
Accordingly, the careful distinction is: officials treated the fire as suspicious and investigated it; the published account cited here said the cause was undetermined. Neither point proves that Jackson set the fire, and the sources do not say investigators cleared him.

The fire occurred amid a dispute over the home and financial support. Tompkins had sued over an alleged promise that Jackson would provide her with a home and sought to remain in the property; Jackson maintained that it was his house. Those were positions in a civil dispute, not findings about the fire.

Jackson later filed a defamation complaint alleging that Tompkins falsely told the press he caused the fire and tried to kill her and their son. Courthouse News summarized the allegations in that complaint. A complaint sets out one party’s claims; it does not establish that those claims are true or resolve who caused the fire.
In 2009, a New York court dismissed Tompkins’s claim to half of Jackson’s estate and future income. The decision addressed that financial claim, not the fire’s cause or responsibility for it.
