The Acolyte’s finale aired on July 16, 2024, so this is a retrospective—not a preview of what viewers knew beforehand. Episode 8, also titled “The Acolyte,” brings the season’s conflict back to Brendok, where Mae, Sol, Osha and the Stranger collide over the truth behind the tragedy that shaped them.

Lucasfilm describes the series as taking place about 100 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It debuted on Disney+ on June 4, 2024; the finale’s official episode guide gives its release date as July 16, 2024. Lucasfilm’s series page and the Episode 8 guide provide the series and episode details.

1. The finale returns to Brendok

The story converges on the site of the past tragedy. Sol and Mae return there, setting up a confrontation involving Osha and the Stranger. Brendok is more than a dramatic backdrop: it is where the characters’ competing accounts of what happened have to meet.

2. Mae wants the truth out

Mae’s immediate goal shifts from revenge toward disclosure and justice. She wants Sol to confess what happened on Brendok. That change reframes the conflict: the question is not only what Mae will do to Sol, but whether the truth can be made public and what it will mean to the people who have lived with different versions of the past.

3. Sol’s confession reshapes Osha’s understanding

Sol admits that he killed the twins’ mother. He insists that he acted to protect the twins, but the admission forces Osha to reconsider the person she trusted and the events that defined her life. The gap between Sol’s justification and the harm he caused is central to the finale’s moral conflict.

4. Osha makes the decisive choice

After hearing Sol’s confession, Osha kills him and bleeds the kyber crystal in his lightsaber, turning the blade red. StarWars.com’s finale recap calls this the first instance of a kyber crystal bleeding in live action. The moment makes Osha’s choice both personal and unmistakable: she has crossed a line that changes her relationship to the Jedi and the Stranger.

5. The closing scenes widen the story’s implications

The finale introduces Darth Plagueis in the cave and shows Yoda in its closing scene. These are revelations made by the episode, not details viewers could have known with certainty beforehand. Their presence connects the intimate Brendok story to larger questions about the Jedi, the Sith and the unseen forces shaping events.

Why the finale challenges a simple good-versus-evil reading

Creator Leslye Headland, speaking to StarWars.com, said: “My goal was to see Jedi as human beings, or as aliens with the emotions we ascribe to humans,” and “I wanted to make them a little bit more fallible.” She also said that “depending on the way you look at it, anyone can be the bad guy” and “anyone can be the good guy.” That framing helps explain why the finale gives weight to competing perspectives rather than treating institutional authority or personal grievance as automatically right.
