Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is the highest-grossing anime movie identified in the latest reports available here: GamesRadar+ reported a worldwide theatrical total of US$738.5 million after North American and UK re-releases in 2026. That does not establish a dependable, current top 25. The frequently repeated 25-film chart is older and predates Infinity Castle’s run, so presenting it as today’s ranking would be misleading.
What counts as a highest-grossing anime movie?
This article uses “grossing” to mean worldwide theatrical box-office receipts, not franchise revenue, streaming value, home-video sales, or merchandise. The older compiled chart explicitly excludes ancillary revenue such as home entertainment and merchandise. Its figures are historical context, not a current ranking: the compiled worldwide anime-film list.

A valid all-time comparison needs a consistent source and a stated cutoff date. Worldwide totals can differ because of release windows, re-releases, territory coverage, reporting practices, and currency conversions. For disputed or close placements, those details matter; admissions and inflation-adjusted estimates should not be mixed with nominal gross receipts.
Highest-grossing anime movie reported in the latest available figures
GamesRadar+ reported that theatrical re-releases in North America and the UK brought Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle to US$738.5 million worldwide in 2026, and described it as the highest-grossing anime film. This is the latest dated figure available here, not a fully audited, consistently sourced top-25 table. GamesRadar+’s report.

An earlier Crunchyroll News report, dated September 23, 2025, put the film above US$555 million worldwide and called it the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film at that time. The two totals describe different reporting dates; they should not be presented as competing estimates for the same point in the film’s run. Crunchyroll News’ September 2025 report.
Why a current top 25 cannot be ranked reliably here
The older 25-film chart predates Infinity Castle’s theatrical performance and carries context tied to theaters in December 2021. It therefore cannot serve as a current all-time order. Although it lists Demon Slayer: Mugen Train at US$503,063,688, Spirited Away at US$395,580,000, and Your Name at US$380,140,500, those are figures from that older chart—not a verified present-day ranking or a guarantee that the films retain those positions. A box-office database can help cross-check films it tracks, but the Box Office Mojo anime-genre listing is not itself a worldwide all-time ranking. A complete list needs every candidate film checked against one current, consistent worldwide source, with the same cutoff date and treatment of re-releases. Without that, assigning ranks 1 through 25 would imply a precision the available figures do not support. Box Office Mojo’s anime listing.

The compiled chart says worldwide anime-film gross figures were not reported before 1997. It also notes that Japanese box-office reporting commonly used distributor rentals through 1999, while total gross receipts became the common measure from 2000. Those different measures, along with later re-releases and currency conversions, make historical comparisons less straightforward than sorting a single clean dataset.

For a sound ranking, a published list should identify its source and cutoff date, use worldwide theatrical gross throughout, explain whether re-releases are included, and avoid silently converting historical totals to present-day dollars. If sources disagree, compare the dates and methods behind their totals before treating a placement as definitive.
