The City of Perth named Langley Park as the best vantage point for its Australia Day fireworks and drone show on 26 January 2026. It also reported viewers at four other areas: Kings Park, South Perth, Terrace Road apartments and Elizabeth Quay. These are locations reported for the 2026 event—not confirmed arrangements for the next Australia Day—and the available official information does not support a list of 20 “secret spots.”
What “Skyworks” means for Perth’s current event
“Skyworks” refers to Perth’s long-running historic Australia Day celebration, but it is not an interchangeable name for every later event format. A 2020 City of Perth council paper says the event began as “Skyshow” in 1985, and that the City took over primary organisation in 1997 and renamed it Skyworks. The City’s 2026 event was described as an Australia Day fireworks and drone show.
The 2026 display was scheduled for 8:30–9:00pm above the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River). The City said timing could change because of wind. That schedule is historical, not a forecast or confirmed program for a future year. The City reported more than 150,000 attendees at the 2026 celebration; that is the organiser’s figure.
Five areas the City reported for the 2026 show
The City’s recap identifies these places as areas from which people watched. It does not rank the four alternatives to Langley Park, establish that every point within each broad area has a clear view, or describe any as secret. Treat the list as a record of reported 2026 viewing areas, not a guarantee for a later event.

| Area | What the City’s 2026 information establishes | Access and viewing limits |
|---|---|---|
| Langley Park | The City called it the best vantage point and identified it as the main event site. | The City urged people to arrive early. Check the event’s current map and guidance for any future edition. |
| Kings Park | The City reported that people watched from Kings Park. | No particular lookout or unobstructed sightline is established. Check the exact location and any current access information. |
| South Perth | The City reported South Perth among the viewing areas for 2026. | This broad area does not confirm that every foreshore point offers a view. A limitation reported for the 2023 replacement-format show should not be assumed to apply to the 2026 display. |
| Terrace Road apartments | The City reported viewers in apartments along Terrace Road. | These are private buildings, not a public viewing recommendation. Do not assume access to apartments or rooftops. |
| Elizabeth Quay | The City reported it as a 2026 viewing area. | Check the current event map for access restrictions before relying on it for a future event. |
Why the list stops at five
The City’s recap supports five named areas, not twenty distinct public spots. Its accessibility and sensory guide maps surrounding streets and parks, but a place appearing on a map does not by itself establish a clear view of the show. Similarly, locations documented for historic Skyworks—including Matilda Bay foreshore and Victoria Park—should not be presented as verified viewing options for the newer fireworks-and-drone format without current confirmation of sightlines and access.
The 2023 ABC retrospective describes the transition away from the former Skyworks format and reports that the revised show that year was not visible from the South Perth foreshore. That is evidence about the 2023 edition, not a rule for all later years: the City reported South Perth viewers at the 2026 display.

Plan around access, closures and crowds
For the 2026 event, the City published an accessibility and sensory guide with accessible viewing information, amenities and a road-closure map. The City cautioned that the map was not to scale and that its information was correct at the time of publication. For a future event, use the latest City guidance rather than carrying over an old map or assuming roads and facilities will be unchanged. The guide directs people seeking boat access to Transport WA for current river closure details.
Langley Park is the strongest evidence-backed choice if you want the organiser’s named best vantage point. The City urged early arrival, and its reported attendance of more than 150,000 in 2026 indicates the event drew a large crowd. The information does not establish that another location will be quieter, more accessible, or better for fireworks versus drones.

What to bring if you picnic at Langley Park
