There is no verified, definitive list of the 20 richest celebrities of the 1990s in the available evidence. The phrase can mean people who were already wealthy during that decade, or stars whose careers broke through then and whose fortunes grew later. Current coverage supports a look at some 1990s-associated musicians and today’s celebrity billionaires, but it does not establish one cross-category top 20 or confirm what each person is doing now.
Here, “of the 1990s” means artists whose fame is strongly associated with that decade. The wealth figures discussed are publication estimates, not audited personal accounts. Because the sources use different scopes and methods, they cannot responsibly be combined into a definitive ranking.

What can be established about their wealth today?
LoveMoney published a 2026 ranking focused on music stars associated with the 1990s. Its list includes Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, alongside artists such as Eminem, Dave Grohl, Dr. Dre and Beyoncé. The publication labels the figures as US dollars. They are editorial estimates, not a verified ranking of every celebrity who was rich in the 1990s. Read LoveMoney’s 2026 ranking.
A separate LoveMoney feature discusses later careers and ventures for Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Robbie Williams, Shania Twain, Dr. Dre and Beyoncé. It supplies context for how some stars’ careers developed after the decade, but its wealth figures are estimates and should be attributed to the publication. It does not verify a complete roster of 20 or provide a uniform basis for comparing all of them. See the related LoveMoney coverage.
#1 Best Overall
Forbes Australia reported 22 celebrity billionaires on its 2026 list of the world’s billionaires, with wealth snapshots dated March 1, 2026. Forbes defines a celebrity billionaire as someone who became famous first and then very wealthy. That list offers current context, but it is not a roster of 1990s stars and cannot fill in the missing top 20. Read Forbes Australia’s 2026 coverage.
Why a definitive top 20 would be misleading
The title leaves two key questions unanswered: which people qualify, and what “richest” measures. A cross-category list could mix individual musicians, band members and celebrity entrepreneurs, whose assets and income are valued in different ways. Shared band wealth and jointly held assets also complicate comparisons.
The available sources do not provide a unified estimate for the intended 20 people. LoveMoney’s music-focused rankings and Forbes’ celebrity-billionaire list have different scopes; combining their figures would create a ranking without a consistent method. The available coverage also does not establish a present-day activity update for every person in a confirmed group of 20.
A defensible ranked list would need a confirmed roster, a measurement date, a currency and a consistent source standard. It would also need to state how shared or jointly held wealth is treated. Without those choices, a numbered list would suggest a precision the evidence does not support.

What the historical estimates show
Celebrity Net Worth reports that Forbes estimated George Lucas’s net worth at $2 billion in 1997. This is a historical estimate as relayed by Celebrity Net Worth; the original Forbes item was not reviewed for this account. The same source says Oprah Winfrey reached billionaire status in 2003, but the cited passage gives no dollar figure for that milestone. Read Celebrity Net Worth’s account.
These examples illustrate why “richest celebs of the 90s” needs a clear time frame: a person’s wealth during the decade is not the same as wealth accumulated after 1990s fame. Neither example establishes who belongs in a particular top 20.

How to read “where are they now?” coverage
For a useful comparison, look for three details alongside each person’s name:
- What they are doing now: a dated, sourced update on creative work, performance or business activity—not an inference from past fame.
- What the wealth estimate represents: the publication, estimate date and currency, while remembering that a reported net worth is not an audited account.
- How comparable the person is to others: whether the estimate concerns an individual artist, a band member or an entrepreneur, and whether shared assets affect the figure.
On the available evidence, the honest answer is a partial one: current coverage names some musicians whose fame is associated with the 1990s, and Forbes reports a separate 2026 celebrity-billionaire list. Neither source establishes the intended 20-person roster or a definitive cross-category ranking.
