In AR Rahman’s 2.0 soundtrack, the song most closely tied to Akshay Kumar’s bird-loving villain is also the one Scroll reviewer Devarsi Ghosh judged strongest. Ghosh called “Pullinangal” “a sweet and sublime song that is an ode to birds.” That is a critical preference, not an objective ranking—but its character-specific idea and quieter emotional approach make a persuasive case against the Rajinikanth-associated tracks.
Why “Pullinangal” stands out
“Pullinangal” is built around the villain’s connection to birds, giving it a point of view that the other two songs do not share. Scroll describes it as an ode to birds and a theme for Akshay Kumar’s character. Bird recordings are woven into a restrained arrangement of strings, piano and a simple synthetic beat, rather than being set against a grand, percussion-led backdrop. Ghosh found its performance more emotionally affecting than those of the other two songs.
That character fit is the central argument for calling it the soundtrack’s better song: its musical details reinforce who the character is, while the other tracks serve more familiar romantic and celebratory functions. This does not make “Pullinangal” universally preferable. A listener drawn to an immediate hook or a large-scale anthem may favor one of the Rajinikanth-linked numbers.
How it compares with Rajinikanth’s songs
“Endhira Logathu Sundariye”: the robot romance
The Indian Express describes “Endhira Logathu Sundariye” as a slow, technology-inflected love song between Chitti, played by Rajinikanth, and Amy Jackson’s character. Its lyrics play with the idea of an “electronic wife” and sweet-talk an engine. Sid Sriram and Sashaa Tirupati sing the Tamil version, according to the paper. Times of India praises its catchy hook and appealing tune, comparing it with “Irumbile” from Enthiran. Its melodic immediacy is a real strength; its purpose, though, is to carry a robot romance, not to express the villain’s relationship with the natural world.

Version matters when discussing the song: Scroll identifies the Hindi counterpart as “Mechanical Sundariye,” sung by Armaan Malik and Shashaa Tirupati, and notes that the Hindi and Tamil lyrics differ. The title and vocal credits therefore should not be transferred from one language version to another.
“Raajali”: the victory anthem
“Raajali,” also referred to as “Raajali Nee Gaali,” takes a more expansive route. The Indian Express hears rustic orchestration and a victory-anthem structure; Times of India describes punchy beats and grand orchestration, while Scroll characterizes it as an anthem-like celebration of good over evil and notes its Isaac Asimov reference. The Indian Express credits lyrics to Madhan Karky and vocals to Sid Sriram, Blaaze and Arjun Chandy. The track’s scale is suited to a triumphant film moment, but it is less intimate and specific than “Pullinangal.”
Three songs, three different jobs
| Song | Story function | Critical strength |
|---|---|---|
| “Endhira Logathu Sundariye” | Chitti and Amy Jackson’s character in a robot romance | A catchy hook and appealing tune, praised by Times of India |
| “Raajali” / “Raajali Nee Gaali” | A celebratory, victory-anthem moment | Grand orchestration and punchy, foot-tapping beats, noted by Times of India and the Indian Express |
| “Pullinangal” | An ode to birds and a musical expression of Akshay Kumar’s bird-loving villain | A restrained arrangement and emotional performance, singled out by Scroll |
The contrast is not simply quiet versus loud. “Endhira Logathu Sundariye” is designed to make a romance memorable; “Raajali” aims for scale and momentum. “Pullinangal” connects arrangement, sound and character in a more distinctive way. Scroll’s preference rests on that combination, not on audience polling or measurable popularity.
Which version are you comparing?
The soundtrack’s language versions have different song titles, lyrics and vocal credits. Scroll credits AR Ameen and Suzanne D’Mello across versions of “Pullinangal,” with Bamba Bakya on Tamil, Kailash Kher on Hindi and M. M. Keeravani on Telugu. For a singer-to-singer comparison, specify the language version rather than treating the credits as interchangeable.

Release coverage also reflects different moments. In October 2017, launch reports described three planned songs but said only two were unveiled at the Dubai event. The later Scroll review, published November 21, 2018, and Amazon Music’s current Tamil listing discuss or list all three tracks. The early event report should not be mistaken for a complete later album track list. The Indian Express reported that Rahman performed the songs live at the Dubai launch with a 125-member symphony.
