There is no reliable, comparable measurement of muscle mass for anime characters, so this is an editorial ranking of how muscular they look—not a scientific scale or a ranking of fighting strength. The characters are compared in representative forms, using apparent bulk, muscle definition, proportions, and visible form changes. Because anime styles exaggerate bodies in different ways, the order is necessarily subjective.
How this visual ranking works
A secondary list published by Anime Rankers on August 27, 2026 offers a useful pool of candidates, but its ordering is editorial too. This ranking makes its own comparisons rather than treating that list as a measurement study or evidence of industry consensus.
- Apparent bulk: how much muscular volume the character seems to have overall.
- Definition: how clearly individual muscles and separations are drawn.
- Proportions: how imposing the build appears relative to the character’s depicted frame.
- Form changes: whether the comparison depends on a transformation or another distinct state.
These are visual judgments, not standardized criteria. No comparable figures for body weight, body-fat percentage, or muscle volume are established for this group. Strength, height, and fictional feats therefore do not stand in for muscle mass.
The 15 most muscular anime characters, ranked
1. Superalloy Darkshine — One-Punch Man
Darkshine is the clearest image of all-over, bodybuilder-style mass in this lineup: his physique is drawn as an exceptionally broad, densely muscled surface, with definition that reinforces rather than diminishes his bulk. He takes the top spot for the sheer visual impression of a body built around muscle.

2. Yujiro Hanma — Baki
Yujiro’s frame combines formidable size with sharply emphasized musculature. His official Baki character profile calls him the “strongest creature on earth,” a fictional characterization, not a measurement of his body. The series’ larger-than-life contest among fighters helps explain its extreme physiques: Netflix’s overview of Baki identifies it as an adaptation of the manga franchise and describes Baki’s pursuit of surpassing his father. Yujiro places just below Darkshine because his visual identity emphasizes imposing power as much as total bulk.
3. Broly — Dragon Ball
In his powered-up form, Broly’s torso and limbs expand into an unmistakably massive silhouette. That state-specific increase makes him one of the strongest contenders for raw visible bulk, though it also means his placement depends on which version of his physique is being compared.
4. Muscular — My Hero Academia
Muscular’s appearance is not presented as an ordinary training outcome. The official My Hero Academia character page names his quirk “Muscle Augmentation” and says he wraps muscle fibers outside his skin, giving him substantial power and speed. The premise makes his surface-level muscle display especially striking, but it remains a supernatural ability rather than a comparable real-world body measurement.

5. Machio Naruzo — How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?
Machio is built around a comic contrast between an unassuming presentation and an enormous, sharply defined physique. His combination of visible size and clean separation earns him a high place, even though the joke of the character depends on how suddenly that muscular form is revealed.

6. Young Toguro — Yu Yu Hakusho
Toguro’s physique is defined by deliberate escalation: his body can become more exaggerated as he draws on more power. In his more muscular states, the breadth of his shoulders and arms makes him one of anime’s most recognizable hulks. The ranking compares his visibly enlarged combat form, not every point on that changing scale.
7. Toriko — Toriko
Toriko has a broad, heavily developed build that looks functional within a series of oversized physical challenges. He does not depend as strongly on a single transformation for his muscular impression, giving his bulk a consistent presence.

8. Escanor — The Seven Deadly Sins
Escanor’s physique changes with his power and the time of day, so any placement needs that qualification. His daytime form is the comparison here: it is conspicuously broad and muscular, while his other state has a very different appearance. The shift makes him visually memorable but complicates a direct comparison with characters whose bodies stay more consistent.
9. Guts — Berserk
Guts is muscular in a more grounded, battle-worn way than the characters above him. His build reads as strength and endurance rather than a showcase of extreme bodybuilder definition. He ranks lower on sheer displayed mass, not on combat ability.

Thorkell’s size is emphasized through his towering proportions and huge limbs. His design creates a formidable impression, though height and overall frame are not the same thing as muscle mass; his place reflects the visual scale of his build, not a claim that he has a measurable advantage over shorter characters.

11. Menthuthuyoupi — Hunter × Hunter
Youpi’s enormous body and capacity to alter its shape make him a striking example of mass in a nonhuman design. Because his proportions and transformations depart from an ordinary human frame, a direct comparison is especially interpretive.
12. Baki Hanma — Baki
Baki’s muscular definition is pronounced, particularly in a series where the body is a central part of its visual language. Against the largest characters here, however, his build appears more compact. His goal of surpassing Yujiro is a story premise, not evidence that he has more muscle.
13. All Might — My Hero Academia
All Might’s hero form is a deliberately idealized, broad-shouldered physique, with clear definition and imposing proportions. His distinct appearance from his thinner form makes the comparison form-dependent, but his hero build is the one that belongs in a visual ranking of muscular characters.

14. Biscuit Oliva — Baki
Oliva’s design foregrounds exceptional upper-body bulk and a dense, powerful build. He ranks below the most exaggerated bodies in this list because his visual impact is concentrated in a massive frame rather than a transformation that pushes every proportion to an extreme.
15. Roronoa Zoro — One Piece
Zoro’s muscularity is easy to read in his broad torso and defined arms, but his overall silhouette is less dominated by sheer mass than those ranked above him. He rounds out the list as a visibly athletic, muscular character rather than an all-out giant.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why these rankings cannot establish a single “most muscular” winner
Different artists use different proportions, line work, and exaggeration. A character with etched definition can look more muscular than a larger character whose design emphasizes height or shape. Transformations add another variable, as do forms that change with time of day. The rank is therefore best read as a comparison of memorable visual designs, not a claim that one fictional body contains the most muscle by any consistent standard.
Official franchise details provide context but do not settle the ranking: Yujiro’s profile describes his fictional reputation, while Muscular’s profile explains a superpower. Even a fictional strength statistic for another Baki character would not measure muscle volume or establish a comparable figure for Yujiro.

For readers who want more of the Baki characters
Baki is based on manga source material, as Netflix notes in its franchise overview. Toshiki Hirano, director of Baki, said: “The viewing experience differs depending on whether audiences have read the original work or are encountering the story for the first time through the anime, so we were mindful of creating an approach that works for both.” Readers interested in the characters can explore the manga alongside the anime; editions and current availability depend on the retailer and region.
