No: the figure of 145 referred to people who reported suspected syringe pricks during France’s nationwide Fête de la musique on June 21, 2025—not 145 medically confirmed injections. Officials had not established that drugs were involved, and Le Monde reported on June 27 that no drug injection had been confirmed by then.
What happened at the June 21, 2025 celebration?
Fête de la musique is a nationwide French music celebration. During the event on Saturday, June 21, people in several parts of the country reported suspected pricks. The French Ministry of the Interior’s early figure, reported by The Guardian on June 23, was 145 reports across France; Paris police recorded 13 reports in the capital.
The number describes reports of suspected pricks. It does not establish that every person was pricked with a syringe, that a needle delivered a substance, or that anyone was injected with drugs. At the time, officials had not specified whether the reports involved drug injection.
Were the reports medically confirmed?
Le Monde’s case-by-case account, published June 27, said no drug injection had been confirmed by that date. Its examples show why individual reports and medical findings must be kept distinct; they do not determine what happened in every one of the 145 reports.

- [3 Adjustable Modes – Not 100% Silence] – Switch between Quiet (27dB), Experience (22dB) - SNR, and Transparent (18dB). You'll still hear music, announcements, and crowd energy – perfect for staying aware while protecting your hearing.
- [High-Fidelity Sound, Not Muffled] – Unlike foam plugs that dull everything, our acoustic filter preserves clear, natural audio. Hear every beat and lyric at concerts, or follow game commentary at sports events – without the “stuffed ear” feeling.
- [Perfect for Live Events, Sports & Everyday Use] – Ideal for music festivals, concerts, nightclubs, motor racing, football games, basketball games, baseball games, hockey games, soccer matches, stadium events, and loud bars. Also great for travel, open offices, or studying. They reduce harmful noise such as bass drops, crowd roar, and stadium cheers while keeping you connected to your surroundings.
- [Reusable, Portable & Easy Care] – Made from washable, skin-safe silicone. Comes with a carry case for clean storage. No batteries needed. Important: For best results, follow the included video guide. If you expect complete silence (like earplugs for sleeping or shooting), this earplug is not for you – it's designed for safe, aware listening. If you experience ear pressure or a feeling of blockage, first adjust to the middle setting, then gradually increase to the maximum noise reduction level.
Findings reported in Angoulême
In Angoulême, 22 young women went to police or hospital with suspicions of pricks. Doctors examined them, and the prefecture said: “at this stage, no clinical evidence of injection nor symptoms suggesting the administration of a psychoactive substance have been found.” Four men arrested there were released for lack of evidence. This was a local finding at that stage, not a medical conclusion covering all reports nationwide.
Other reported examinations
Le Monde said examinations in Lorient, Rouen and Alençon identified mosquito bites mistaken for syringe marks. That reporting does not establish that all suspected marks were misidentified, or that every person who reported a prick received the same examination.

How many people were arrested, and what do the later figures mean?
Counts changed as authorities gathered information, and the categories used in reports are not interchangeable. The National Assembly published a government response on December 2, 2025, with official figures for the event based on data through the end of June. It separates the Paris police prefecture area from other police jurisdictions and distinguishes procedures, reports, complaints, arrests and police custody.
| Figure | Scope and meaning | Source and timing |
|---|---|---|
| 145 reports; 14 suspects arrested | National reporting figure and arrest count reproduced in the Assembly record. The count of arrests is not a finding of guilt. | National Assembly government response, published December 2, 2025; figures concern June 2025. |
| 12 detentions | An early count reported by The Guardian; it differs from the later Assembly record’s 14 arrested. | The Guardian, June 23, 2025. |
| 48 procedures, including 46 in Paris; 11 arrests | Paris police prefecture area. The government response lists 10 procedures in 2024, 18 in 2023 and 59 in 2022 for the same area. | National Assembly government response, published December 2, 2025; June 2025 figures. |
| A little over 250 reports; a little over 100 complaints, about 40% of reports; 23 people implicated; 16 placed in police custody | Outside the Paris police prefecture area, in police jurisdiction nationally. These are separate procedural categories, not additional counts to add to the Paris-area figures. | National Assembly government response, published December 2, 2025; data through the end of June 2025. |
The Assembly response also said no victim’s life was in danger, while noting that some people were taken to hospital for toxicological analyses. A report, a complaint, a procedure, an arrest and police custody each describe a different stage or type of record; combining them into a single total would misrepresent what the figures count.

Were suspects convicted?
No conviction can be inferred from an arrest. Le Monde reported on June 27 that it had identified no indictments among the more than a dozen people arrested on suspicion by then. It described releases, investigations still under way and cases without public updates. The later Assembly response supplies aggregate arrest and custody figures, not final outcomes for each case. The sources cited here therefore do not establish the final disposition of every investigation.
What role did social media play?
Le Monde reported that calls to target people with syringes circulated online before the celebration, but said it could not independently confirm the Snapchat groups described by an account tracking such messages. National police spokesperson Agathe Foucault told the outlet: “These calls did exist, but they were not widespread.” She also said that “the spread of such messages on social media leads some to imitate, encouraging offenses they might not have considered otherwise.” These comments describe a possible influence, not proof that online posts caused the reported incidents.

The same report described false claims of mass injuries in Les Sables-d’Olonne and deaths in Angoulême. It also reported that a man in Agen was attacked by a crowd after being falsely accused of being an “injector.” Viral claims should not be treated as verified incident counts: the article’s examples show how unconfirmed or false allegations can intensify alarm and harm people.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do the 2025 figures compare with earlier years?
The government response gives historical figures on its stated national measure: about 700 reported incidents in 2022, compared with 30–40 reports in 2023 and 2024, and five in 2021. Separately, for the Paris police prefecture area, it lists 59 procedures in 2022, 18 in 2023, 10 in 2024 and 48 in 2025. These series have different stated scopes and units—national reports versus procedures in the Paris prefecture area—so they should not be read as one directly comparable sequence.
