Most need only household supplies and refillable plastic eggs. Adjust the rules, reach, distance and pace to suit the players; this is a practical selection, not a ranked or definitive list.
Choose games for your group and space
For a mixed-age gathering, combine a hunt or other movement game with a quieter option and a team game. The guide below notes where each works best and what you need. Indoor play suits bingo, dice exchanges and question games; races and tossing need a suitable open area. Keep an adult nearby for activities involving running, hopping, small pieces or food.
Egg hunts and puzzles
1. Classic Easter egg hunt
You need: Refillable plastic eggs and optional baskets or buckets. Hide the eggs indoors or outdoors, then send players to search. For older children, hide some in more challenging spots; for younger players, keep eggs easy to see and reach. A map or clue can add another layer. Avoid hiding food eggs outdoors; details on keeping eating eggs separate are in the safety section.
2. Color-coded egg hunt
You need: Plastic eggs in several colors. Give each player a color and ask them to collect only eggs of that color. This reduces competition and can make the hunt feel fairer. Alternatively, assign each person an equal number of eggs to find. To make the game more accessible, use clear visual cues or flashing or beeping eggs where appropriate.

3. Clue or map hunt
You need: Written clues, a simple map or picture clues, plus eggs or a small prize at the finish. Give players the first clue and have each answer or location lead to the next. Use picture clues for readers who benefit from them, and tailor the route and difficulty to the group. For a team version, let players solve clues together.
4. Scrambled-letter hunt
You need: Plastic eggs and paper letters. Put one letter in each egg, then have players find the eggs and arrange the letters to spell a destination, word or answer. Make the final word short for younger children, or use a longer phrase for older players. Youth Work Ireland describes a letter-based hunt using plastic eggs in its 2026 Easter Activity Pack.

Active games
5. Egg-and-spoon relay
You need: Spoons and plastic or hard-boiled eggs. Players carry an egg on a spoon to a turning point and back, then pass the spoon to the next teammate. Use a short, clear route and adjust the pace to the players. Plastic eggs avoid food waste if one drops.
6. Egg toss
You need: Partners and an egg. Players toss it back and forth, stepping farther apart only when the tosses are controlled and the space is appropriate. Avoid overhand throws, keep bystanders clear and use a plastic egg for a less messy version. Stop if the area or participants make tossing unsafe.

7. Bunny-hop sack race
You need: Sacks or pillowcases and a level grassy surface. Players step into their sacks and hop toward a finish line. Keep the course short, supervise children and discourage rough play; offer a walking or non-racing alternative for anyone who prefers it.
8. Easter freeze dance
You need: Music and a player to pause it. Everyone dances while the music plays and freezes when it stops. Anyone who moves can sit out a round, or keep everyone in by simply restarting the music. The freeze rule is an easy variation on Easter dancing games described in Coles’ family activity guide.

9. Pin the tail on the bunny
You need: A bunny picture or poster, a paper tail with reusable adhesive and a blindfold. One player at a time is gently turned around, then tries to place the tail in the right spot. Use an open area, keep other players out of the path and help younger children take their turn safely.

10. Easter bingo
You need: Bingo cards with Easter pictures or words and small household objects for markers. Call out the images or words, and players cover matching squares. The first person to complete an agreed pattern wins. Let younger children play with picture cards and use larger markers that are easy to handle.

11. Egg exchange dice game
You need: Plastic eggs, one or more dice and a short list of exchange rules. Give each player an egg, take turns rolling and follow the rule assigned to the result—for example, pass an egg left or exchange with another player. Decide the rules before starting, and make exchanges optional if a player would rather keep their egg. Youth Work Ireland’s activity pack includes an egg-and-dice exchange format.
12. Easter Family Feud
You need: Easter-themed questions, a score sheet and two teams; a bell or buzzer is optional. Ask survey-style questions such as “Name something people put in an Easter basket.” Teams try to guess the most popular answers on your prepared list. Without survey results, make clear that the answers are family guesses rather than actual survey rankings. Youth Work Ireland’s activity pack describes a team question-game format.
Keep Easter eggs safe to eat
Use a separate set of eggs for hiding or decorating and for eating. Refillable plastic eggs are useful for hunts and letter games; USDA recommends non-food decorative eggs for hunts. Keep hard-cooked eggs intended for eating refrigerated until they are needed, and do not leave them at room temperature for more than two hours, according to the USDA’s March 25, 2026 spring-holiday food-safety guidance. FoodSafety.gov also advises using food-grade dye on eggs that will be eaten and keeping eating eggs separate from eggs used for hiding or decorating: Food Safety Tips for Passover and Easter.
Do not eat eggs found outdoors. The Egg Safety Center advises inspecting found eggs and discarding cracked ones; it also cautions against hiding eggs on chemically treated lawns or near pet housing. Its guidance says hunts should not exceed two hours: Egg Safety Center Easter egg hunt advice. For egg dishes, USDA says to cook to a minimum internal temperature of 160°F and refrigerate leftovers within two hours, as explained in its spring-holiday guidance.
