This is an editorial shortlist, not an official ranking: Netflix’s view counts show what people watched, not which shows are objectively best. The picks below pair that audience signal with variety in genre, format, and mood.
12 Netflix shows to watch from 2025
The order is a viewing guide, not a definitive ranking. Netflix’s Engagement Report counts “views” by dividing hours watched by a title’s runtime; its figures below cover July through December 2025. Catalog availability varies by country, so check your local Netflix listing.
-
Wednesday, season 2
Gothic mystery and supernatural comedy meet at Nevermore Academy, where Wednesday Addams returns for another story of strange goings-on. It is the clearest pick for a playful, highly visible mystery: Netflix reported 124 million views for season 2 in the second half of 2025, the highest figure in that report’s list. Netflix’s Engagement Report provides the period and measurement.
-
Stranger Things, season 5
The final season brings the long-running science-fiction and horror story to its conclusion. Choose it if you want a continuing ensemble story and payoff from earlier seasons, rather than a standalone entry point. Netflix reported 94 million views for season 5 in the second half of 2025; all five seasons together drew 275 million views in that period. Those are viewing measures, not quality scores. Netflix’s year-end TV selection also called out the show.

It suits viewers looking for tense, consequential drama; season 3 is the final season, so expect a close to the central story. Netflix reported 79 million views in the second half of 2025. The figure reflects that six-month period, not an all-time or first-91-day ranking. Netflix’s report explains its views measure.

North of North
This comedy broadens the shortlist beyond the best-known returning franchises and darker dramas. It is a useful option if you want a tonal change; Netflix’s 2025 slate guide has the series description.
-
UNTAMED
A dramatic mystery for viewers who want a high-interest thriller. Netflix reported 93 million views for season 1 in the second half of 2025. The figure is a measure of viewing during that six-month window, not a verdict on the show. Check Netflix’s Engagement Report for the methodology and current local listing for availability.
How to choose what to watch
- For a high-profile mystery: start with Wednesday season 2.
- For a series finale: pick Stranger Things season 5 or Squid Game season 3, bearing in mind both are concluding seasons.
- For a shorter, serious crime story: try the limited series Adolescence.
- For episodic speculative fiction: choose Black Mirror season 7.
- For a comedy break: consider animated family comedy Long Story Short, the mystery-comedy The Residence, or North of North.
- For romance or case-led crime: look at Forever or Department Q and use each show’s official description to check the premise.
What Netflix’s viewing figures do—and don’t—tell you
Netflix reported 96 billion hours watched across its service in the second half of 2025. Its title-level “views” are calculated by dividing hours watched by runtime, so they are not a count of unique people. The report is useful for spotting what attracted viewing in that particular six-month window; it does not measure artistic merit or establish a universal top 12. The data is also not directly comparable with an all-time chart or a first-91-days list. See Netflix’s report for its full scope and definitions.
Netflix’s year-end selection and slate guide add editorial context and official descriptions, but neither constitutes an independent critics’ consensus. Treat the titles as a varied shortlist, and check your local catalog because availability can differ by territory.
