The clearest examples are a documented 2015 moment involving John Cena and Sting, fan recollections of a Trish Stratus signing, and a disputed report about Randy Orton. Each describes a particular interaction, not a definitive verdict on anyone’s character.
Why a 10-and-10 ranking would overstate the evidence
“Salty” and “sweet” are casual labels, not measurable traits. The sources available here offer a small number of anecdotes, not a representative survey or a consistent basis for ranking 20 wrestlers. Some are contemporaneous news reports; others are fan recollections or forum posts. Those sources do not carry the same weight.
A fair comparison would account for where an encounter happened, what occurred, who reported it, and whether anyone corroborated it. It would also keep a wrestler’s on-screen character separate from their conduct away from the ring. A villainous persona or a hostile crowd reaction is performance context—not evidence of how someone treats a fan in person.
Documented examples of warm fan interactions
John Cena and Sting greeted a young cancer survivor
TIME reported that after WWE Raw in 2015, John Cena and Sting greeted and hugged seven-year-old cancer survivor Kiara Grindrod and presented her with gifts. TIME quoted Cena telling her, “You’re seven years old and I am proud to say, you have beat the battle against cancer.” This is a reported, specific act of kindness; it does not establish how either wrestler behaves in every fan interaction. Trish Stratus at a 2006 signing
TrishStratus.com published a collection of attendee recollections from a 2006 signing in Newcastle. One attendee said Stratus listened to her, gave her a personal autograph, and comforted her when she started crying. These are attributed fan accounts on Stratus’s official site, rather than independent news reporting. They offer a positive impression of that event, not a broad measure of her conduct. Randy Orton and a fan at a gym
Fox Sports covered a reported altercation between Randy Orton and a fan at a gym, including the fan’s account. It is evidence of a disputed, particular encounter, not enough to conclude that Orton is generally rude to fans. Fox Sports’ report

Orton’s WWE profile discusses his villainous “anti-superstar” presentation and the audience response to it. That describes his wrestling persona, not his off-camera treatment of fans. His own career interview likewise provides career perspective, not a systematic record of fan encounters. WWE’s profile · WWE’s interview
How to read fan reputation stories
Fan discussions are impressions, not verification
A 2025 Reddit thread gathers opinions about wrestlers described as “nice to fans” or as having a “bad reputation meeting fans.” Such discussion can show how fans talk about reputations, but posts are subjective and anecdotal; they do not verify individual claims or represent the broader fan base. Context matters in both directions
PWInsider has noted that fan behavior and the circumstances of an encounter can affect wrestler-fan interactions. That is useful context when considering an anecdote, but it does not establish what happened in any particular case. PWInsider’s commentary
- A reported or firsthand account can support a claim about a particular moment; it cannot automatically establish a lasting pattern.
- A compilation of fan recollections should be identified as such, rather than treated as independent verification.
- A wrestler’s heel persona belongs to the show and should not be used as proof of off-screen behavior.
What can responsibly be said
There are credible, bounded examples of generosity and a reported, disputed example of friction. The sources do not establish a fair top 10 or bottom 10, nor a representative ranking of wrestlers by friendliness. The useful answer is therefore not a definitive roster of “sweet” and “salty” names, but a distinction between documented moments, attributed recollections, disputed reports, and on-screen character work.
